Types of Images commonly used in graphic designs : illustration Photography Illustration Is a visual representation such as a drawing, painting, or other work of art , Illustrations can be used to display a wide range of subject matter, and there are different styles. They serve a variety of functions, such as: giving faces to characters in a story, giving a certain in visual communication/vibe to the design Using Illustrations in visual communication Photography Photographs are very effective images that can convey stories very quickly. Think how less effective advertisements would be if they used only words. The Importance of photography in graphic design: photographic images capture an emotion. Photography has an emotional component to it, so select images that make you pause – not for shock value necessarily, but because they connect to your theme or story. If you see a picture of a happy kid on a cereal, you want that cereal to make you happy in turn. Visual Communication : As the saying goes, ‘A picture is worth thousand words.’ As a visual communicator, photography is essential to the graphic designer in diverse ways, since images can mean a lot in communication as far as aesthetics are concerned. The Importance of photography in graphic design: Better Understanding of Color and Contrast Photography can strengthen your eye in understanding the impact of light and color. Graphic design includes a formal understanding of elements like warm and cool colors and contrasts of dark and light. It is a figure of speech that identifies two dissimilar things based on something that they have in common. For example, an eagle and a car are two completely different things, but one thing that they can have in common is speed. Photo Manipulation Photo manipulation involves transforming or altering a photograph using various methods and techniques to achieve desired results. Photo manipulation is changing or editing a photo. Photo manipulation is the application of image editing techniques to photographs in order to create an illusion or deception after the original photographing took place. You usually manipulate a photo using programs like Photoshop, Lightroom, or Gimp. Typography Typography is the art and technique of arranging or designing a type. Typeface: A typeface is a set of characters of the same design. These characters include letters, numbers, punctuation marks, and symbols.... The term "typeface" is often confused with "font," which is a specific size and style of a typeface. For example, Helvetica is a typeface, while Helvetica 10 pt bold is a font. 1- Functional: Type is used to deliver a specific massage. Publication designs can be more adventurous because magazines readers tend to jump in and out of the text rather than reading from cover to cover , With small segments of copy , unusual fonts can sometimes bring freshness to the overall feeling of the design , However it’s wise not to mix too many fonts together in one design The content of the material and the purpose of the design are the main factors in deciding your choice of font Sans serif types with their simple mono weight structures are design to maximize readability for high way singe 2- Decorative: Type is used to deliver emotions and specific look and feel to the design. Expressive Typography Expressive typography is an art form where text is highly visual; actually, type becomes an image there. Letters are not just abstract notions, carriers of meaning; they are also real, physical shapes. Calligraphy : Writing in calligraphy involves using a dip pen with a nib and ink to create thick and thin lines using varying degrees of pressure, all in a single stroke. Down strokes are thick, while upstrokes are kept thin, light and airy. Calligraphy takes a certain discipline to learn, and is something one must practice consistently to create "muscle memory" of certain strokes. Space A form is always experienced in relation to the space it occupies and to other forms that may be present in the format. We call this the figure-ground relationship.
