# Module 2: Organising for Efficiency ## Chapter 1: Introduction and Outcomes ### 1.1 Introduction Organising for efficiency is about applying organising skills in the workplace to make work easier. Everyone in the company should be involved. Implementation at the team level is especially important, as they are the people who run the day-to-day operations. Organising for efficiency focuses on: - Making work easier - Improving productivity and efficiency of people - Creating a functional, visually organised workplace that people are proud of - Establishing single minute retrieval (SMR) of all things needed to complete work This workbook is intended to provide guidelines for an improvement process that can be used by teams to strengthen their organising methods for higher efficiency in the workplace. Furthermore, this module will also link to clinical standards of cleaning best practices. ### Benefits to the Team: - Eliminating the need to search for items (causing lower productivity) as well as irritation experienced by team members. - The opportunity to participate in workplace improvements, influencing the workflow, and organisation of the workplace by giving input on how work should be done. - Making the workplace more pleasant to work in by removing obstacles and frustrations and thus keeping the environment ‘fresh’ and teams energised. - The company will also experience benefits by implementing Module 2: - Creating a look and feel of a professional, quality-orientated workplace. - Improved productivity and enhanced turnaround time. - Increased energy in people with a mind-set for improvement. - Building confidence so that people can participate in the improvement journey. - Improving knowledge management and service delivery. - Creating an empowered workforce, as team members analyse problems, make suggestions and implement improvements in their own work area. ### 1.2 Outcomes of the Module The objectives of organising for efficiency are to: - Understand the maturity of the implementation of Module 2 - Explain the importance of organising for efficiency - Train everyone in the steps and techniques to achieve a well-organised workplace - Develop overall goals, an overall plan to achieve sustainability of a clean and well-organised workplace, in which work is made easier and more meaningful, and where people have great pride in their workplace. ## Activity 1 In your own words, describe the following: 1.
