Designation of a scale consists of the word “SCALE” followed by the indication of its ratio, as follow SCALE 1:1 for full size SCALE X:1 for enlargement scales (X > 1) SCALE 1:X for reduction scales (X > 1) Dimension numbers shown in the drawing are correspond to “true size” of the object and they are independent of the scale used in creating that drawing. 12 Mechanical Drawing Dr. Mohamed Bayomy Sectioning A section view is used to show an area or hidden part of an object by cutting away or removing some of that object. The cut line is called a “cutting plane”, and can be done in several ways. 1. Full section 2. Offset section 3. Half section 4. Aligned section “Revolved section” 5. Broken-out section(Located section) 6. Removed and Revolved section (Detailed section) 13 Mechanical Drawing Dr. Mohamed Bayoumy Sectioning Cutting plane SEC. Ribs 17 Mechanical Drawing Dr. Mohamed Bayoumy 5. Broken-out Section The view is made by passing the cutting plane normal to the viewing direction and removing the portion of an object in front of it. A break line is used to separate the sectioned portion from the un-sectioned portion of the view. Break line is a thin continuous line (2H) and is drawn freehand. There is no cutting plane line. 18 Mechanical Drawing Dr. Mohamed Bayoumy 6.1 Removed Section SECTION B–B SECTION A–A B A B A 19 Mechanical Drawing Dr. Mohamed Bayoumy 6.2 Revolved Section This section is especially helpful when a cross-section varies. Revolved sections show cross-sectional features of a part. 20 Mechanical Drawing Dr. Mohamed Bayoumy Abbreviation Term Abbreviation Term Abbreviation A/F Across Flat HEX HD Hexagonal head ‫اﻹختصارات‬ A/C Across Corner LH Left-hand CRS Centers MAX Maximum CL Center line MIN Minimum CHAM Chamfered NO Number CYL Cylinder or Cylindrical PCD Pitch-circle diameter DIA Diameter R Radius Ø Diameter RH Right-hand SØ Diameter (Spherical) RD HD Rounded head DRG Drawing SCR Screw EQUI SP Equally spaced SH Sheet EXT External □ or ⊠ or SQ Square FIG.
