Manual Container unload WIN Title: Manual Container unloading WIN (Work instruction) Date of Issue: 13/05/2023 Document ID: 1. Purpose – The purpose of this work instruction is to provide guidelines and procedures for safe manual unloading of containers within Fit&Ready Services. It aims to minimize the risk of injury to employees/contractors and promote a safe working environment during container unloading tasks. 2. Scope – This work instruction applies to all employees/contractors involved in manual container unloading activities within Fit&Ready Services 3. Responsibilities – 3.1 Management a. Provide necessary resources and training to ensure compliance with this work instruction. b. Regularly review and update the work instruction as required. c. Appoint competent personnel to supervise and enforce safe container unloading practices. 3.2 Employees/Contractors a. Follow the guidelines outlined in this work instruction. b. Attend training sessions and refresher courses on manual handling techniques. c. Report any hazards, incidents, or injuries related to container unloading to the appropriate personnel. 4. Pre-Task Preparation – 4.1 Ensure proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn, including safety shoes, gloves, and any additional equipment based on the task requirements. 4.2 Conduct a pre-task risk assessment to identify potential hazards and implement necessary control measures. 4.3 Inspect the container and surrounding area for any visible hazards or obstructions. 4.4. Determine the order of unloading and create a plan for organizing the unloading process. 5. Equipment and Tools – 5.1 Ensure the availability and proper functioning of necessary equipment and tools, such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and lifting straps. 5.2. Inspect the equipment and tools for any damage or defects before use. 5.3. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the safe operation of equipment. 6. Container Unloading Techniques - 6.1 Communicate and coordinate with team members involved in the unloading process. 6.2. Ensure proper body mechanics by maintaining a stable base of support, bending the knees, and keeping the back straight. 6.3. Lift and carry items using leg muscles while keeping the load close to the body. 6.4.
