Grade 8 Lesson 6 Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah in the Fiery Furnace Daniel 3 In this lesson we will learn about Daniel’s 3 friends and one of the incidents which happened to them while serving the King of Babylon 1. Daniel 3:1 King Nebuchadnezzar set up a golden image 60 cubits high and 6 cubits wide (approximately 90 ft high and 9 ft wide). It was in the plain of Dura. 2. Daniel 3:2-6 The king gathered all the leaders of the kingdom together and told them and their people that at the time they hear a special music playing they will have to bow down and worship the golden image. 3. Daniel 3:8-13 Some Chaldeans (native Babylonians) saw that Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah did not worship the golden image and they went and told the king. 4. Daniel 3:14-18 When the king asked them what happened and if it was true that they did not worship the golden image, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego answered the king. The answer they gave is an example of how our strong our faith in God should be: a. We are not careful __________________________________________ b. We will not serve another God _________________________________ c. Our God can save us _________________________________________ d. But if He does not, we will still serve only Him ____________________ Daniel 3:16-18 Amplified 16Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to answer you on this point. 17If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire, and He will rescue us from your hand, O king. 18But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up!” 5. Daniel 3:19-23 The king was so upset with their answer that he ordered the furnace to be heated 7 times more than usual and that Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah be cast into it. The furnace was so hot that the people who threw them in were killed from the heat alone. 6. Daniel 3:24,25 As the 3 men were in the furnace, King Nebuchadnezzar looked, and saw 4 men in the furnace walking. 7. Daniel 3:26,27 Nebuchadnezzar called Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego out of the furnace. When they came out they were completely unharmed. They did not have a single burn. They did not even have a single burn mark. 8. Daniel 3:28,29. The king realized the power of the three men’s God. He made a decree stating that nobody is allowed to speak against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, because there is no God that can deliver such as He did. Also if anyone speaks against their God then they will be killed and their houses will become dunghills. What does this teach us? ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ 9. Daniel 3:30 Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were then promoted in the province of Babylon. Moral: In the midst of fiery trials, if we stand true to the revelations that God has given us, then God will miraculously deliver us. Memory Verse: Jude 3
