WORK IMMERSION Can you describe your ideal work environment? How would your peers describe you? Where do you see yourself in five years? What professional goals have you set for yourself? What kind of people do you work best with? Why? Work Immersion/Research/Career Advocacy/Culminating Activity (WRCC) WORK IMMERSION  It is important in any endeavor because this generally serves as a preparation for the students when they enter into formal employment. It serves as a platform for a formal training prior to employment. Students are trained to do tasks the right way and since they are outsiders just coming in an organization, students provide a unique and a fresh view in doing things. It gives an overview on how things are done in the real world. It serves as a backbone for getting things done. The safety of the student is one of the primary concern of the university. Every student is bounded by their responsibility to the work immersion workplace. OSH Occupational Safety and Health  commonly referred to as occupational health and safety (OHS), occupational health, or workplace health and safety (WHS), is a multidisciplinary field concerned with the safety, health, and welfare of people at work  This painting depicts a woman examining her work on a lathe at a factory in Britain during World War II. In many countries, however, such standards are still either weak or nonexistent. Philippine Labor Code  Devotes an entire book to prevention, enforcement of OSH standards and compensation of work-related injuries and illnesses. DOLE (Department of Labor and Employment)  The Philippines' Department of Labor and Employment is the executive department of the Philippine Government mandated to formulate policies, implement programs and services, and serve as the policy- coordinating arm of the Executive Branch in the field of labor and employment What is the minimum employable age? When is a child below 15 employable? The child works directly under the sole responsibility of his/her parents or legal guardian. The child’s employment or participation in public entertainment or information is essential. Work permit is obtained from DOLE Work done by the child complies with the hours of work provided by law Employer shall provide working child with access to primary and secondary education No employer shall make a child work during school hours or hinder access to education during school days Hours of Work 15 or older but below 18 maximum of 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week should not work from 10 pm to 6 am Child is below 15 maximum of 4 hours a day, 20 hours a week should not work from 8 pm to 6 am Each employer covered by the Occupational Safety and Health Standards must: Furnish its workers a place of employment free from hazardous conditions that are causing or are likely to cause death, illness or physical harm. Use only approved devices and equipment in the workplace. 3. Give complete job safety instructions to all the workers (especially those entering the job for the first time) including instructions relating to the familiarization with their work environment, hazards to which the workers are exposed to and steps taken in case of emergency. 4. Safety Tips: (workplace) Clean and organize Be Be Clean and organize Be aware of your Be alert and awake your workstation to surroundings. while doing your job. avoid potential harm while doing your job. Make sure that there is a clear and easy access to doors and fire exits. Always follow the health and safety procedures of your company. Set you work schedule with regular breaks to avoid getting work-related illnesses. Consider learning first aid and basic self-defense skills. General Responsibilities:  Take reasonable care of your health and safety and to take reasonable care not to put other people at risk.  Participate in appropriate training.  Adhere to the employer’s health and safety policies.  Make proper use of any personal protective equipment.  Report any injuries, strains, or illnesses you may suffered as a result of your work.  Tell your employer of any health related issue that may affect your performance.
