STRUCTURE: Structure An assemblage of number components which remains in equilibrium and has to satisfy the fundamental criteria of strength, stiffness, economy, durability and compatibility for its existence. bretbqert 54 Slide 107 r1 ralph, 18/02/2019 fgsby 9/3/2024 Analysis Evaluation of the stresses, moments and forces and plotting them for that structural component is known as analysis. Design Determination of dimensions for these components of these stresses and proportioning is known as design. Simply Supported Structure A structure whose primary function is to resist loads. They are classified by their manner of supports Undergo shearing and bending bretbqert 55 fgsby 9/3/2024 Shear Force Shear force with respect to a beam, is the force in the beam acting perpendicular to its longitudinal axis. Shear force can be calculated and illustrated on a shear force diagram. Bending Moments The bending moment acting at a point on a beam is the resultant turning moment due to all the forces acting. Two Types of bending moment : Sagging moment (Positive) and hogging bending moment (Negative) Bending moment can be calculated and illustrated on a bending moment diagram. bretbqert 56 fgsby 9/3/2024 Various Loading Conditions Loads are forces which causes stresses, deformation and displacements when applied to a structures. Uniformly distributed Point load Examples of Simply Supported Structure bretbqert 57 fgsby 9/3/2024 r1 INDETERMINATE STRUCTURE: (According to Equilibrium Condition) 1. Statically determinate Structure It can be analyze by the basic equilibrium equation. bretbqert 58 Slide 115 r1 ralph, 18/02/2019 fgsby 9/3/2024 (According to Equilibrium Condition) 2. Statically indeterminate Structure It cannot be analyze by the basic equilibrium equation. The end reaction find out by using basic equilibrium equation with combination of other conditions like strain energy method, virtual work method, double integration method, three moment equation etc. INDETERMINATE STRUCTURE Redundant Structure. They are classified by their manner of supports Undergo shearing and bending bretbqert 59 fgsby 9/3/2024 LOAD COMPUTATION & DISTRIBUTION METHODS r1 Lesson 3. DESIGN OF SIMPLY SUPPORTED REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS: bretbqert 60 Slide 120 r1 ralph, 18/02/2019 fgsby 9/3/2024 RC beams Structural Element that designed to carry transverse external Loads which causes bending, shear and sometimes torsion across their length. Supports the loads from the slabs, other beams walls and columns and transfers the load to the columns supporting them Types of Beams (According to supports) 1. Simply Supported beam. Supported at both ends, either hinge or roller support at either ends Undergo shearing and bending bretbqert 61 fgsby 9/3/2024 Types of Beams (According to supports) 2. Continuous beam. Similar with simply supported beam except more than two supports are used on it. Used in long concrete bridges and long span of grid for buildings Types of Beams (According to supports) 3. Cantilever beam. A structure member of which one end is fixed and other is free bretbqert 62 fgsby 9/3/2024 Types of Beams (According to supports) 4. Over hanging beam. Overhanging beam is combination of simply supported beam and cantilever beam. This beam is supported by roller support between two ends Types of Beams (According to supports) 5. Fixed beam. Beam fixed from both ends Does not allow vertical movement and rotation of the beam Only under Shear stress and no moment prouces in this beam bretbqert 63 fgsby 9/3/2024 Types of Beams (According to shape of cross section) 1. I beam. 2. T beam 3. C beam LOADS LOADING CONDITIONS LOAD DISTRIBUTION METHODS bretbqert 64
