The individual has the desire to perform a specific task, because its results are in accordance with his belief system. ► Examples: Acceptance: Curiosity: Independence: Order: We all need to be organized. Power: Social contact: We all need to have some social interactions. Social Status: We all have the desire to feel important. Types of motivation Extrinsic Motivation ► Extrinsic motivation means that the individual's motivational stimuli are coming from outside. ► Extrinsic motivation is external in nature. Types of motivation Achievement ► Achievement motivation is also commonly referred to as the drive for competency. motivation for achievement may involve external recognition. We often have a desire or need to receive positive feedback from both our peers and our superiors. Types of motivation Growth ► The need for self-improvement is truly an internal motivation. A desire to increase our knowledge of ourselves and of the outside world can be a very strong form of motivation. Types of motivation Power ► The motivation of power can either take the form of a desire for autonomy to control others around us. ► the longing for power is merely a desire to affect the behavior of others. We simply want people to do what we want, according to our timetable, and the way we want it done. Types of motivation Social ► Many people are motivated by social factors. This may be a desire to belong and to be accepted by a specific peer group. ► If we have a longing to contribute to the world around us, it is generally a sign that we are motivated by social factors. F Motivational techniques Motivational techniques ► Positive imagery Posting motivational themes and messages, in the form of slogans, can help to positively empower a team. Motivational techniques ► Team-building activities The fact that they encourage people to work together outside the office environment can be a definite advantage. Improving team relationships can result in increased productivity and morale, and can lead to a much happier and healthier working environment. Motivational techniques ► Training People can be taught to become more motivated by showing them how to deconstruct tasks and challenges, and how to feel less intimidated by their job roles. Demonstrating to them how to cope in the workplace can lead directly to improved motivation. Motivational techniques ► Enhanced communication Communication does not only mean talking to your team but also listening to them. It is important to ensure their understanding of company objectives and their individual job roles but it is equally important to show them the importance of their feedback to the achievement of targets and standards. Motivational techniques ► Targets, rewards and incentives Target achievement can be rewarded not only with financial incentives but perhaps with the offer of increased responsibility or even promotion.
