The French artist Jacques Carelman in his series of books Catalogue d 'objets introuvables (Catalog of unfindable objects) provides delightful examples of everyday things that are deliberately unworkable, outrageous, or otherwise ill-formed “Designs of Everyday by Donald A. Although, since there’s no field for a country code, they won’t be able to call you anyway. SLIIT Academy (Pvt.) Ltd. 2022 14 [image credit https://www.creativebloq.com/features/10-painful-ui-fails-and-what-you-can-learn-from-them ] Windows 8 Microsoft decided to jump on the touchscreen. The problem was that they built a touch-first interface in addition to a regular interface, and even made it the default on installations. The result? Most users with regular, non-touchscreen laptops, had to navigate huge tiles using their mouse to get work done. This design did not induce a feeling of the future, but instead - frustration. There was an unnecessary learning curve, separate apps based on which interface you used, and even separate browsers!. Ltd. 2022 16 Human Computer Interaction SLIIT Academy (Pvt.) Ltd. 2022 17 Why HCI? SLIIT Academy (Pvt.) Ltd. 2022 18 User Experience (UX) "User experience" encompasses all aspects of the end- user's interaction with the company, its services, and its products. - by Don Norman and Jakob Nielsen User experience (UX) focuses on having a deep understanding of users, what they need, what they value, their abilities, and also their limitations. It also takes into account the business goals and objectives of the group managing the project. UX best practices promote improving the quality of the user’s interaction with and perceptions of your product and any related services SLIIT Academy (Pvt.) Ltd. 2022 19 UI and UX UI is made up of all the elements that enables someone to interact with a product or service. UX is what the individual interacting with the product or service takes away from the entire experience. “As an example by Don Norman and Jakob Nielson: consider a website with movie reviews. Even if the UI for finding a film is perfect, the UX will be poor for a user who wants information about a small independent release if the underling database only contains movies from the major studios.” SLIIT Academy (Pvt.) Ltd. 2022 20 Factors that Influence UX Peter Morville represents 7 factors that affects User Experience Peter Morville is a pioneer of the fields of information architecture and user experience SLIIT Academy (Pvt.) Ltd. 2022 21 7 factors of UX SLIIT Academy (Pvt.) Ltd. 2022 22 User-Centered Desing (UCD) SLIIT Academy (Pvt.) Ltd. 2022 23 User-Centered Design (UCD) Understand context of use Identify the people who will use the product, what they will use it for, and under what conditions they will use it. Techniques such as Surveys and Interviews, focus groups can be used. Understand how users interact with the system The medium used (desktop or smartphone) The Environment the interaction takes place The user’s emotional state SLIIT Academy (Pvt.) Ltd. 2022 24 User-Centered Design (UCD) Specify User Requirements Identify any business requirements or user goals that must be met for the product to be successful. SLIIT Academy (Pvt.) Ltd. 2022 25 User-Centered Design (UCD) Design Solutions Creation of potential solutions for the established problems/ requirements identified. Utilizes techniques such as storyboarding, wireframing, designing mockups and user flow. SLIIT Academy (Pvt.) Ltd. 2022 26 User-Centered Design (UCD) Evaluation Assess the outcomes of the evaluation against the users’ context and requirements to check how well a design is performing. Ideally through usability testing with actual users. SLIIT Academy (Pvt.) Ltd. 2022 27 User-Centered Design (UCD) SLIIT Academy (Pvt.) Ltd. 2022 28 Context of HCI SLIIT Academy (Pvt.)
