# Drug Information ## Hydrochlorothiazide - **Class:** Thiazide diuretic - **Indication:** Hypertension, edema - **Dose:** 12.5 mg to 25 mg once daily - **Contraindication:** Anuria - **Precaution:** Patient with thiazide diuretics - **Side effects:** Electrolyte disturbances, hyponatremia, photosensitivity, Gl distress ## Lopressor - **Generic name:** Metoprolol - **Class:** Beta Blocker (Beta 1 select) - **Indication:** Hypertension, angina pectoris, heart failure - **Dose:** 50 to 100 mg (max 450 mg per day) - **Contraindication:** Greater than first degree heart block - **Precaution:** Use with caution in patients with cardiac abnormalities - **Side effect:** Bradycardia, Dizziness ## Motrin - **Generic name:** Ibuprofen - **Class:** NSAID - **Indication:** Mild to moderate pain rheumatoid arthritic ## Lopressor-HCT - **Generic name:** Metoprolol with hydrochlorothiazide - **Class:** Beta blocker in combination with thiazide diuretic - **Indication:** Hypertension - **Dose:** 50 to 100 mg orally; hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg daily - **Contraindication:** greater than first degree heart block, anuria - **Precaution:** Use with patient with cardiac conduction abnormalities. Peripheral vascular disease and sensitivity to thiazide diuretic - **Side effect:** Bradycardia, Dizziness, Tiredness, Electrolyte disturbance, Hyponatremia, Hypoalemia, Photosensitivity ## Caduet - **Generic name:** atorvastatin and amlopdipine - **Class:** - Calcium channel blocker - HMG CoA reductase inhibitor - **Indication:** - Dyslipidemia - HTN - **Dose:** Start with 5mg/10mg increase to 10mg/80mg - **Precaution:** patient with transaminase enzyme - **Side effect:** Muscle pain, Gl distress, Hypotension ## Norvasc - **Generic name:** Amlodipine - **Class:** Calcium channel blocker - **Indication:** HTN - **Dose:** 2.5 to 10 mg by mouth once daily - **Contraindication:** Hypertension, lower extremity edema, HA - **Side effect:** are same as contraindication ## Relafen - **Generic Name:** Nabumetone - **Class:** NSAID - **Indication:** - Mild moderate pain - rheumatoid arthritis - osteoarthritis - **Dose:** 500 mg to 1000 BID (max is 2000 mg per day) - **Contraindication:** - NSAID hypersensitivity - Gl ulceration - **Side effect:** - Fluid retention 1-3% - Photosensitivity <1% - Gl diarrhea <10% ## Practice of Pharmacy - Interpretation, evaluation and dispensing an order ## Potential Drug Related Problems - Incorrect patient - DOB - Patient is allergic - Duplicate therapy - Drug-drug interaction - Dose incorrect - Frequency incorrect
