Understanding the Keyboard 1. The American Standard Keyboard that we use is called the QWERTY keyboard. 2. The Keyboard is a Hardware device and an Input device. 3. The Keyboard is made up of Alphabet keys, Arrow keys, Number keys, Special Function Keys, a Number keypad and Function Keys. 4. A keyboard that is built-in to the computer and is used on the screen is called a Touch-screen keyboard. 5. There are 12 Function keys on the Keyboard. 6. A Keyboard that has no wires is called a Wireless Keyboard and therefore it works with Bluetooth. 7. Some Special Keys on the Keyboard are: Enter, Spacebar, Delete, Caps Lock Backspace, Escape, Shift,Tab,Alternate,and Control. 8. Shift key: Makes one letter ​ capital at a time. 9. A shortcut key is when you click the Ctrl plus a letter on the keyboard. Example CTRL + X means to cut. 10. CTRL is short for Control. 11.​ The ESC (Escape) key cancels an action. 12.​ Shortcut keys allow you to complete a task faster. 13. Delete: Allows you to erase data to the RIGHT of the cursor. 14. Backspace: Allows you to erase data to the LEFT of the Cursor. Proper Keyboarding 1. When typing, your eyes should always be focused on the Monitor. 2. When typing, your fingers should always rest on the Home Row Keys position. 3. Your Home Row keys are ASDF JKL; (first part LEFT HAND and second part RIGHT HAND.
