(Julius Caesar- 2021) A- Answer the following questions: 1- Who was Calpurnia? What was her advice to her husband? - She was Caesar's wife. She advised him not to ignore the warnings to his life. 2- What reasons did Brutus give for killing Caesar? - That Caesar would be the absolute ruler of Rome if he was given more power and that his character would change. 3- What was Calpurnia's dream? - A lion was seen on the streets of Rome. Graves opened throwing out the dead, skies poured blood and there were ghosts everywhere. 4- Who were jealous of Caesar's rise? - All the members of the Senate, especially Casca, Decius, Cinna and Cassius. 5- Why did Caesar go to the stadium? - He went there to see the games. 6- Describe the river Tiber incident. - When the river flooded, Caesar asked Cassius if he was brave enough to jump into the river. Cassius jumped and Caesar followed him. Then Caesar called Cassius to save his life. 7- Why did Cassius poison the mind of Brutus? - He wanted to have him for his own gain. He committed suicide. B- Comment on the following Quotations: 1- ''Beware the Ides of March'': - This was a warning to Caesar about impending danger to his life on the 15th March. It was an important date for Romans. 2- ''No Cassius the eye sees not itself, But by reflection, by some other things.'' - Brutus speaks to Cassius. He means that people see themselves as they are, but by reflections of others. 3- '' It was Greek to me.'' - Casca speaks to Cassius. He means that he didn't understand anything alyhough others understood and smiled. 4- ''But it's a common proof, That lowliness is young ambition's ladder..'' - Brutus said this to Caesar. He means that man doesn't look downward when he or she achieves a position. He refers that Caesar became arrogant since becoming an emperor. 5- "Cowards die many times before their death; The valiant never taste of death but once.'' (Julius Caesar- 2021) - Caesar speaks to his wife Calpurnia when she advised him not to ignore warnings to his life. But he didn't care about that. 6- ''Et tu, Brute? – Then fall, Caesar.'' - Caesar here thinks that his end was a logical thing as his close friend ''Brutus'' turned an enemy. 7- ''Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.'' - Brutus here justifies the killing of Caesar by saying that he loved his country (Rome) more. 8- '' Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears; I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.'' - Mark Antony speaks about Caesar's character on the day of his death. He was afraid of the killers. 9- ''This was the unkindest cut of all.'' - Mark Antony refers to the worst thing for Caesar was that all his friends became traitors and killed him. 10- '' This was the noblest Roman of them all.'' - Antony described Brutus as the noblest Roman whom Caesar once trusted although he took part in killing him.
