To provide specialized services for mothers, children, adults, workers, elderly handicapped and eligible couples etc. 6.To conduct research and contribute to the further refinement and improvement of community health nursing practice. 7.To participate in preparing health personnel to function in community for community health care services. 8. To supervise, guide and help health personnel in carrying out their functions effectively. 4 4 Philosophy of Community Health Nursing 1. Philosophy of individual’s right of being healthy. 2. Philosophy that people in the community have potential for continued development and are capable of dealing with their own problems if educated and helped. 4. Philosophy of socialism. 5 5 Health: Is state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and it is not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (WHO, 1978). Community: A group of people who share common interests, who interact with each other, and who function collectively within a defined social structure to address common concerns. 6 6 Community Health: The identification of needs and the protection and improvement of collective health within a geographically defined area. 7 7 Community Health Nursing: Special field of nursing that combines the skills of nursing, public health and some phases of social assistance and functions as part of the total public health program for the promotion of health, the improvement of the conditions in the social and physical environment, rehabilitation of illness and disability ( WHO Expert Committee of Nursing ) 8 8 Community Health Nursing Community health nursing is a population-focused, community-oriented approach aimed at health promotion of an entire population, and prevention of disease, disability and premature death in a population. 9 9 Concepts of Community Health Nursing: 1. Healthful community. 2. Empowerment for health promotion. 3. Prevention of premature death Prevention of disease, illness and disability. 4. Promotion and maintenance. 5. Rehabilitation. 10 1 Characteristics of Community Health Nursing 1. Community health nursing is a specialized field of nursing. 2. In community health nursing, the whole community is the client. 3.
