Good Morning! Activity Objectives At the end of this lesson, the students are expected to: 1. Define hypothesis; 2. Differentiate the types of hypothesis; 3. Write a well-defined hypothesis using the given variables. Hypothesis Is a tentative statement of the expected relationship between two or more variables under the study Types of Hypothesis 1.Simple and Complex Hypothesis 2.Associative or causal Hypothesis 3.Directional or Non-directional Hypothesis 4.Null Hypothesis Simple and Complex Hypothesis 1.Smoking is a prominent cause of lung cancer. 2.Individuals who eat more fruits tend to have higher immunity, lesser cholesterol, and high metabolism. Directional and Non Directional Hypothesis 1.There is a positive relationship between years of teaching experience and job satisfaction among teachers. 2.There is relationship between years of teaching and job satisfaction among teachers. Null Hypothesis There is no relationship between smoking and incidence of lung cancer among teenagers. Associative and Causal Hypothesis How to write a well- defined hypothesis? 1. Employees who are allowed to work from home are less likely to quit within 2 years than those who need to come to the office. Hypothesis: Working from home improves job satisfaction. 2. Participants who eat garlic daily will not be harmed by vampires. Hypothesis: Garlic repels vampires. Characteristics of a Well-Defined Hypothesis States the expected relationship between variables Testable Derived from problem statement Simple and concise Activity Identify whether the given hypothesis are well-defined or not. Write “YES” for well-defined hypothesis and “NO” if not. 1.Chocolate is better than vanilla. 2.Sleep deprivation affects cognition. 3.Animals adapt to their environment. 4.Social media use causes anxiety. 5.Silver waepons can kill werewolves. Activity Write an example for each type of hypothesis following the two requirements of a well-defined hypothesis. Do it a ½ yellow paper.
