**Brief Job Description of Hardware Unit in DEA** Hardware unit, which is one of the four (4) units in the Directorate of Examination and Assessment (DEA), is saddle with the following under listed duties and responsibilities. 1. **E-examination server preparation.** The hardware unit is responsible to check all servers that are to be used for the conduct of E-examination to confirm them suitable for the conduct of Examination. 2. **E-examination Server OS installation.** After the servers would have been checked from 1 above, hardware personnel will install Operating System (OS) on the Main E-examination Server, We use Ubuntu Linux OS as our Operating System 3. **Cloning of E-examination Servers** The installed Main Server is given to Programming Unit (PU) to install the examination package (Moodle) on it, after which, it will be returned to Hardware for cloning, Since NOUN has so many Study Centres, we have to replicate the Main server to other servers to be used at various Study Centres during E-examination, the process of replicating these servers is called "Cloning" We do clone up to Hundred (100) servers during E-examination **4. E-examination Server distribution to study centres** 5. **Study Centre Support** The Hardware unit also supports Study Centres during and after examination on Network and Hardware issues. 6. **Installations of both Hardware/Software and Network for Centres.** Hardware unit partake in the installation of new computer system supplied to the Study Center and the running of LAN Network for the Centres for the purpose of E-examination. 7. **Software and Hardware support for the Directorate.** Hardware unit maintain Software and Hardware of Computer systems of DEA staff in the Directorate, all Examination Servers are in the custody of the Hardware unit for proper and safe keeping, maintenance and upgrading.
