COMPILED BY A-MEDIA 09123315386 1 GNS 211 SUMMARY BY A-MEDIA MODULE 6: GLOBALISATION IN AFRICAN PERSPECTIVE Globalisation is derived from the term GLOBE, which connotes anything more or less spherical. It is said to have started as a gradual process, and according to a report by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS, 2003, 34). The concept of globalisation emerged in the last decade of the twentieth century when the observers began commenting on how intertwined the world was becoming. The report has it that the root of globalisation should be traced to the early "European discoveries which saw European powers reach out to the various continents" and that the early globalisation process gave birth to the trans-Atlantic trade from Africa to the Americas to Europe. It is worthy to take note that categorization of Africa as basically a third world continent. UNO was formed as a major attempt at unifying the world and controlling in affairs in a harmonized way. The UNO was formed in 1945. The UNO was formed originally by 1 COMPILED BY A-MEDIA 09123315386 2 51 members nations, and UNO was composed of 191 nations, we have some essential parastatal of UNO which are World Health Organization WHO, Food and Agricultural Organization FAO, United Nation Children Education Fund UNICEF, World Court WC. Globalisation In African Perspectives Africans believed that God is the so Creator, Ruler, and the Sustainer of the world. African have natural instinct for globalisation, embedded in openness to life and human capacity to love reasonably, peacefully and hospitably. ATR which is regarded to as African Traditional Religion enjoys love of neighbor and fraternal coexistence, as well as care for the environment. Newton's present a will whereby the British economically expoited an improverised African, he observed how things was a well organized industry in the central Pleateu area of Nigeria around Jos and how over 50 foreign country came in and took over the Jos mints, employing nearly 40000 team members by 1928. Many African attribute the economic hardship pervading the continent to Western institutions such as the International Monetary fund IMF, the World Bank and the World Trade Organization WTO. The IMF and World Bank are said to persuade African countries to borrow huge 2 COMPILED BY A-MEDIA 09123315386 3 sums of money for the development of their infrastructure and economic ventures. Thus, globalisation is not just about worldwide travel, communication, or International cultural influence but rather it is a terminology for free market economy among unequal partners, in which the third world, including African suffers neo- colonial exploitation. Africans In The 21st Century Globalisation is not seen by many knowledgeable and concious person world wide to be designed like globalisation is not seen by people dat is designed to favour poor nations. The powerful world leaders who are mostly westerners would seems to have secured international trade argument and policy that are to underdeveloped Nation. Bribery and corruption are what constitutes the banned of African development, for instance, many development project are not materialized simply because of the poor and corrupt human factor that we have in the country. The implications of this seems that what we need is a leadership that is selfless, patriotic, honest, astrotive and proposly enough to wage war on the corrupt policy and practices. Also the World leadership simply means those in decisions making and executively pubic position. 3 COMPILED BY A-MEDIA 09123315386 4 Africans leaders has to take full responsibility for the running of their countries affairs because if they take responsibility, the continent won't have much problem with globalisation or any form of international relation be it billatral or multilatral and it will constitutes a good approach to globalisation in African Perspectives or world view. One implication is that African were not as backward economically as the western imperalists would like to pin the picture but the imperalist exists when the a few expoit the majority is using whatever means, trades, political power, substitucated weapons, economic advantage etc. THE END.
