Definition Meaning Assertiveness  is the ability to express your opinions, feelings, ideas, and needs openly, in a way that is true to who you are and respectful of others. Attitude  represents how a person thinks or feels about someone or something”. Behavior  is a product of both the situation (e.g., cultural influences, social roles, and the presence of standers) and of the person Behavior  represents an individual’s reaction to a particular action, person or environment”. Communication  Communication is a process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols & signs of behavior. Conflict resolution  It is attempting to resolve conflicts among coworkers or members of a team Context  Communication is affected by the context in which it takes place Coping  It is a regulatory process that can reduce the negative feelings resulting from stressful events. Decision making  Exploring and analyzing options to make sound decisions. Decoding  It is the process of translation of an encoded message into ordinary understandable. Directing  The lower-right-hand quadrant represents a communication style that combines high dominance and low sociability Emotive  The upper-right-hand quadrant combines high sociability and high dominance. Encoder - Sender  Encoder is a person who sends the message Encoding  the process of conversation of subject matter into symbol called encoding Extra personal Communication  It is a communication between human beings and nonhuman beings. Feedback  is the main component of communication process as it permits the sender to analyze the efficacy of the message. Group  Group dynamics consists of two Dynamics words – (i) group and (ii) dynamics. A group is a unit of two or more individuals who share a set of beliefs and values. human relations  All categories of interaction among people including their cooperative efforts, their conflicts and group relationships.  It is the study of why our beliefs, attitudes and behaviors sometimes cause relationship problems in our personal lives and in work-related situations Interpersonal Communication  It is a sharing of information among people. It includes a few participants who are close to one another Intrapersonal Communication  This communication occurs within the individual's brain in the form of internal dialogue. Listening skills  How we interpret both the verbal and non- verbal messages sent by others. Medium  Medium is a means used to exchange / transmit the message For instance Message  Message is a key idea that the sender wants to communicate Motivation  It is the inner drive for excellence. Motivation is also the arousal and the force of an individual to engage in desired behavior Motivation  is an internal state or condition (sometimes described as a need, desire, or want) that serves to activate or energize behavior and give it direction Negotiation  Working with others to find a mutually agreeable outcome. Non- verbal communication  What we communicate without words, body language is an example Personality  A characteristic way of thinking, feeling, and behaving. Personality embraces moods, attitudes, and opinions and is most clearly expressed in interactions with other people. Problem solving  Working with others to identify, define and solve problems. Recipient / Decoder  is a person for whom the message is intended / aimed / targeted. Reflective  Tends to avoid making a decision. Interested in details. Formal and avoid displaying emotions. Resilience  It is the process of being able to adapt well in times of stress. self awareness  One’s own behavior and its impact on self and others. feelings toward self, others, and situations. Self- disclosure  It is sharing information about yourself with others. A process of communication by which one person reveals information about himself to another self esteem  is how we see ourselves and values ourselves as People. Self-acceptance  It is the foundation of successful interaction with others. In a work setting, people with positive self- concepts tend to cope better with change, accept responsibility more readily, tolerate differences, and generally work well Self-confidence  The belief that you can achieve success and Competence. In other words believing you to be capable. Stress  It is an adaptation reaction of living organisms in response to internal or external threats to homeostasis Supportive  Attempts to win approval by agreeing with everyone. Seeks reassurance, refuses to take stand is apologetic Trust  Building a base for a successful relationships. Trust helps in making frank discussion and free exchange of ideas and information Verbal communication  what we say, every written or spoken words.
