# Globalisation Booklet 3 ## Cultural diffusion and erosion - TNC's such as Nike, apple and lego removed cultural diversity by selling uniform products worldwide. - This change reduces the cultural change throughout the world. - Global medics such as Disney exported its stories of superheros and princesses worldwide. Western festivals such as Christmas are featured in the films and spread around the world spreading the culture. - Migration and tourism bring cultural change around the world. Europeans travelled widely around the world during the age of empires, bringing languages and customs with them. ## Changing diets in China - Traditional Asian diets are low meat and high vegetably. - However, due to globalisation and fast food, Chinese diets have more meat. - During the 1920s, in their diet, there was more meat consumption per person - it went from 4kg to 40kg. ## Physical Environment Effects - Livestock farming has become a new focus of Asian agriculture, increasing methane emissions. - To create space for these farms, large areas of woodland and forest have been chopped down. - Such as the Amazon clearing space for soy flour to feed the cattle. ## Social Effects - Now, about 100 million Chinese people are obese. - Now, 9.7% of China's population is diabetic, almost at 11% of their population in the USA. # UNESCO World Heritage Sites - A world heritage site is somewhere that has been listed by the UNESCO for being of special cultural or physical significance. For example, Fountains Abbey in Ripon, which is one of the best preserved monasteries. - Positive way to protect local culture. ## Attitudes towards migration - Diaspora - a community of people who share a nationality of ethnic identity away from their homeland. - People worry young migrants are raising the population too high for local schools in some areas. - Lots of skilled workers come from places overseas such as India, computer programmers. ## Extremism - Reciel-aggreved assaults do sometimes happen in the use, for example the murder of Stephen Lawrence. - Events like the mock Islamic culture and show tension in multirellay Europe. ## Internet Censorship in China and North Korea - In China, the army killed lots of people. So, the government has a system controlling what could be seen on the internet to stop everyone knowing. - Google withdrew its services from China when they insisted there should be censorship about Tiananmen Square. - Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are not allowed. They have their own social media. However, in North Korea, there is no access to the internet at all.
