Who do you think are the Contemporary Artists? 1  “Here’s how it is!” CONTEMPORARY ARTS: DEFINED Contemporary Art is a time period of art described as “The Art of Today” or art created from the expressive minds of the artists of the present day. Contemporary art came after the period of Modern Art dating from 1960s/1970s to present day by most art historians. Artworks created during and after that time period are considered contemporary.1 Characteristics of Contemporary Art Diverse Make use of various methods in making art, ranging from traditional arts to utilizing modern technologies and computers. Art is also not limited to only one method; contemporary artists are now using mixed methods to express their artistry.3 Concept over beauty Artworks are focused on the concept behind the artwork rather than its aesthetic beauty.2 Experience Artists give emphasis to the viewer’s experience of the artwork making them a part of the artwork.2 Boundless Contemporary art is breaking boundaries of traditional art forms. Art in this period is no longer bounded in museums and art galleries.
