**Coaching Expectations & Requirements** [Introduction:] When coaching new staff, what you need to do! [Rationale (why is this task important to you):] As a manager coaching is the most dollar productive activity you can do! The better you get at it the easier it will make your working life in the future. [Objective:] - - - As a trainer we've summarized the different tasks you need to do into the below. How well you accomplish each of the tasks will determine successful you will be as a trainer/coach. - - - - - For an easy to remember each of the tasks you do a trainer / coach remember the line, it is your **fate** to achieve the **goal!** **Goal Orientated** Whatever actions you do, think of the goal in mind. Does the action move you closer to achieving your goal? If no don't do it! [Activity: ] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - **Feedback** Feedback is the breakfast of champions! It's a critical ingredient for growth. [Activity:] How soon do you provide feedback - How do you do a one-minute praise? 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. How do you do a one-minute redirect? 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. When should you do a one minute praise / redirect? Are there times when it is not appropriate? - Is it important the trainee to have confidence during the session and why? How can you help the trainee have confidence? - Do you remember a time when you received negative / constructive feedback? How did it affect you & how was it provided - - - Do you remember a time when you received positive feedback? How did it affect you & how was it provided - - - If you provide feedback & you find the trainee is choosing not to listen to you or take on that feedback, what should you do? Write down quick script of what you'd would say. - - - - - - - **Answering Questions** You will receive lots of questions! However answering questions in the most optimal way is delicate topic, it's like a balancing act. [Activity:] Why is it important we encourage questions? Helps find out if there is a lack of understanding, be a teaching opportunity for everyone else, and we can update processes Identify all the different objectives you are trying to achieve when answering questions. In addition, explain why each of these objectives are important. - - - - - Explain why are questions an excellent opportunity for us to see whether we can update the support manual OR Niche to make it clearer? - - **Tips** Throughout the day you want to be giving out lots of tips! Remember all the tips that are given should help towards achieving the goal. Think of any hidden catches which caught you out, pieces of advice which helped you get unstuck & tips that helped you make your process more efficient.
