Federation of Bahrain and UAE The Idea of the Union: The idea of the union dates back to 1935, then to the 1940s. After discovering oil Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait, they negotiated on the federal idea. Union with the blessing of the Arab League and the British opposition in 1964. In 1964, the Arab League blessed the idea of union while Britain opposed it In 1968 Britain blessed the Union's idea because of its decision to withdraw from the Arab region. First Session Meeting: The first session was held in Dubai from 25-27 February 1968 in the presence of Sheikhs: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bahrain, Qatar, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Results of the first session: The call for a union between the UAE. The formation of a higher council of governors shall be chaired alternately. The Council shall be the supreme authority of the Union and shall issue its decisions unanimously. Drafting a constitution through the Supreme Council of the Union. Prevent the use of force to resolve disputes. Joint defense between the UAE against external aggression. Establishment of a federal court to resolve disputes between members.
