Mathematics Faculty Assessment Task Notification and Assessment Task 2 Course & Subject: Year 11 Mathematics Extension 1 Teacher: J Benn Notification Date: Term 2 Week 10 Thursday 4 July 2024 Due Date: Term 3 Week 2 Thursday 8 August 2024 Task: Investigation Style Assignment Total 30% - Understanding, fluency and communication 15% Weight & Breakdown: Problem solving, reasoning and justification 15% Task Format: Submit and In-class Equipment: Blue or Black Pen, Calculator Task Outcomes ME11-1 uses algebraic and graphical concepts in the modelling and solving of problems involving functions and their inverses ME11-2 manipulates algebraic expressions and graphical functions to solve problems ME11-3 applies concepts and techniques of inverse trigonometric functions and simplifying expressions involving compound angles in the solution of problems ME11-6 uses appropriate technology to investigate, organise and interpret information to solve problems in a range of contexts ME11-7 communicates making comprehensive use of mathematical language, notation, diagrams and graphs Task Content Inverse and Parametric Functions – chapter 6 and 7 (6.07, 6.08, 6.09, 7.10) Further Trigonometric Identities and Inverse Trigonometric Functions – chapter 11 Marking criteria The task will be an assignment and an in class test consisting of short answer responses to HSC style questions. Section 1: Answer, with working, 20 multiple choice questions provided. /20 Section 2: Analyse the distractors of one multiple choice question from section 1. The analysis includes identifying and explaining the errors that led to the distractors. Explain the key mathematical concept of the question /5 Section 3: Submit an original multiple-choice question. This question must be on a different topic to the one analysed in section 2. Each possible answer should be justified with working. /5 Section 4: Provide a summary of one of the two topics covered. A well-written summary will demonstrate an extensive understanding of all concepts in the topic and include well- chosen examples. Maximum three pages per topic. /5 Section 5: In-class test on short answer questions /20 Submission Instructions Submit a printed copy to your teacher in class on the due day. See the marking criteria for further details. If you require more space than is allowed for in this document, please staple in extra pages. An electronic copy of the assessment is provided for you on Canvas Assignments if needed. Important Notes Please ensure that you have received all appropriate documentation for this task. Furthermore, it is the students’ responsibility to be familiar with WCCS’s assessment policy documents as published in the Assessment Information Handbook. Section 2: Analysis of one question (5 marks) Analyse one of the multiple choice question from section 1. In the analysis the following aspects need to be covered: The correct answer needs to be shown with associated working out; The alternative choices are to be examined and possible reasons for their choice by the examiners is to be explained. A brief summary of the key ideas of the section of the topic associated with the multiple choice question. Mathematics Faculty Assessment Task Notification and Assessment Task 2 Section 3: Create an original question (5 marks) Submit an original multiple choice question on one of the topics provided below (it must not be from the same topic that you analysed from section 2. Inverse and Parametric Functions Further Trigonometric Identities and Inverse Trigonometric Functions In your explanation of the question the following aspects need to be covered: The question needs to be of HSC standard; You should look at other HSC questions so that you are aware of the standard that is expected. There needs to be a correct choice with working out shown; At least one of the distractors needs to create indecision or being an answer from an error in working; The other distractors need to be similar in design to the correct choice; The question is to be submitted with an explanation for the choice of each distractor. Section 4: Written topic Summary (5 marks) Submit a written summary including worked examples of the key ideas on one of the following topics with worked examples and explanations of your examples:- Inverse and Parametric Functions Further Trigonometric Identities and Inverse Trigonometric Functions (Use the marking rubric to provide more guidance.)
