Before and after contact with resident, use enough soap to produce lather, rub soap vigorously over all surfaces of hand and wrists, hold hands lower than elbows, rinse hands and wrists thoroughly, dry hands and wrists with clean paper towel, use clean towel to turn off faucet. What are the steps for using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer? Apply rub to palm of one hand, rub hands together, cover all surfaces of hands, rub until hands are completely dry. When can you use an alcohol-based hand rub? When do you need to handwash? Decontaminate when hand are not visibly soiled, before direct contact with resident, after contact with resident's care setting, after removing gloves. When hands are visibly dirty or soiled with blood, body fluids, secretions, excretions, before eating, after using restroom. What is PPE? When do you need to use PPE? Personal protective Equipment ( mask, N95, Gown, Gloves, Face shields, goggles, donning( putting on) doffing( taking off) During precautions Review steps for donning and doffing PPE. What are the types of isolation? Know examples of when each type is necessary. What is meant by standard precautions and when are they used? Infection control practices that apply to care of all residents, regardless of infection status.
