A. Old English Old English had its roots from Gaelic and Teutonic languages that got mixed and blended as early as the fifth century caused by the meeting and intermingling of the many settlers of England – first, the Celts who migrated to England from Gaul, now France, and then the tribes of Angles, Saxons and Jutes from what are now known as northern Germany, Holland and Denmark. The Celts, who called themselves Briton, spoke Gaelic while the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes also known as Teutonic people, spoke their Germanic dialects also called Teutonic. Many of the English words in active use at present came from Old English. Some of them are: become wife guest forgive child B. Loanwords The loanwords are those borrowed by English from other languages such as Latin, French, Greek, Scandinavian, Indian, Spanish, etc. Examples: Latin French Greek Scandinavian Indian Spanish altar accuse atmosphere window scandal siesta jurisprudence brilliant catastrophe anger yoga rodeo Diocese of Imus Catholic Educational System, Inc.
