Why Do I need to Study Humanities to be a good engineer/scientist Ata Akın What are the Humanities? “The humanities—including the study of languages, literature, history, jurisprudence, philosophy, comparative religion, ethics, and the arts—are disciplines of memory and imagination, telling us where we have been and helping us envision where we are going.” The Heart of the Matter (Report of the American Academy of Arts & Science’s Commission on the Humanities and Social Sciences to the U. S. Congress in June 2013) Define: Engineer is a person: who designs, builds, or maintains engines, machines, or structures. who designs and builds technology to improve the quality of life (A2 version) Scientist is a person: engaging in a systematic activity to acquire knowledge that describes and predicts the natural world. engaging in a systematic activity to describe the natural phenomena for the betterment of human life (A2 version) Quality of life (QOL) is the general well-being of individuals and societies, outlining negative and positive features of life. It observes life satisfaction, including everything from physical health, family, education, employment, wealth, religious beliefs, finance and the environment.
