He is standing next to a washing machine. He is looking at the washing machine with a confused expression. **Text:** When I wear my mom's dress,I look at myself in all the mirrors in the house. I make faces and talk like I'm someone else. It's a lot of fun ## Page 2 - **Image:** Two pictures of an open book with blank pages. **Text:** * Dani Umpi was born in Tacuarembo, northern Uruguay. A city where it gets very cold in winter and very hot in summer. He likes to write and sing. He also likes to talk on the phone. He is a friend of Rodrigo Moraes, and they share their experiences. * Rodrigo Moraes was born in Montevideo, Uruguay but currently lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His family is from Bella Unión, Uruguay. He has always liked to walk and draw. He often draws as he walks. He is a good friend of Dani Umpi and frequently calls him to share his observations from the internet, television, and fridge. ## Page 3 - **Image:** A boy in a green sequined dress and black soccer cleats is holding a soccer ball on a yellow background. **Text:** El Vestido de Mamá ## Page 4 - **Image:** On the left side of the page, a green wave is drawn over a pink background, and on the right side of the page, a woman's hand with painted nails is shown. **Text:** Mom has a beautiful dress she only wears to parties. It is a sparkly dress that looks like a toy. It looks great on her. She keeps it in a clear bag. After wearing it, she takes it to be cleaned at a place that has machines that can remove dirt without using water. I told my friends about these machines, but they didn’t believe me. - **Image:** Drawn on a lilac background, a couple in white formal attire is shown in the left panel, while a woman in a green sequined dress is shown in the right panel. **Text:** I enjoy when my parents dress up to go to parties. They look like different people. They look at themselves in the mirror, style their hair, and put on make-up. They say, "Don't be late." When they leave, they leave the house smelling nice. ## Page 5 - **Image:** Left panel: a man and a woman in formal attire. - **Image:** Right panel: a woman in a green sequined dress is shown. ## Page 6 - **Image:** Left panel: A boy is lying on his stomach drawing on paper. A thought bubble shows him as a superhero fighting a monster. Above his head, another thought bubble shows him playing soccer. - **Image:** Right panel: A boy standing in a green sequined dress. He is smiling. ## Page 7 - **Image:** An illustration of the boy with a thought bubble that reads "All moments are special" **Text:** I think a lot about special moments. How will I know what's the best time to wear the dress? - **Image:** A detailed illustration of the dress fabric **Text:** The fabric of the dress has tiny stones with different colors. They look like candy. They’re tiny, very tiny. Candy for ants. They are glued to the dress with magic. They don’t seem to be attached to the dress by threads. How do they stay there? I don’t know. I’ve never seen anything like this before. I would love to see what other clothes made with this same fabric would look like. Warriors with capes. Soccer jerseys. Uniforms. Lots of clothing with the magical fabric of Mom’s dress. ## Page 8 - **Image:** A boy in a mirror wearing a dress and high heels. He is in a green sequined dress. He is pointing at the mirror image of himself with his right hand. **Text:** They told me that it is an expensive dress, and if it is washed too often, the sparkly stones begin to come off. It has to be handled with care. - **Image:** A person with a thought bubble that reads "There are so many things I don’t understand". **Text:** I am so glad they told me! There are so many things I don’t understand, like the machines that clean without using water. Sometimes, my friends do or say things I don’t understand that seem strange to me. ## Page 9 - **Image:** A family of three is hugging. The boy in the middle is wearing a green sequined dress and black soccer cleats. **Text:** When I wear Mom's dress, I look at myself in all the mirrors of the house. I make faces and talk like I'm someone else. It’s a lot of fun. I stroke the stones on the fabric. ## Page 10 - **Image:** Left panel: the boy in a chair watching tv. - **Image:** Right panel: the boy, mom, and dad watching television. **Text:** I watch my favorite TV shows, and other more boring ones. Some of the clothes look like Mom’s, but none are exactly the same. A man made it for her by measuring her body with tape. That’s why it is too big for me. Because I have different sizes. ## Page 11 - **Image:** Left panel: A solid green rectangle. - **Image:** Right panel: The boy is sitting on a sofa in front of a television, watching a show with characters in green sequined dresses and black soccer cleats. **Text:** -We also like the dress, but it is only worn on special occasions. ## Page 12 - **Image:** Left panel: a solid pink rectangle. - **Image:** Right panel: An illustration of the boy wearing a sequined green dress with high heels and a thought bubble that reads "I want to be warm". **Text:** Mom also has shoes with high, thin heels. I try not to fall when I wear them. They feel too big. Wearing her shoes feels like standing on my tippy-toes or roller skating. I am careful going down the stairs. I don’t want to hurt myself or damage the dress, but the dress is too big for me. Sometimes I take off the heels so that I can jump better - thought bubble: I want to stay warm in winter. Mom and Dad do, too. I love my gloves and my beanie. I don't like scarves so much. My nose got cold one time, and when I touched it, it felt like someone else's nose. ## Page 13 - **Image:** Left panel: A family is dressed in winter attire. - **Image:** Right panel: A boy wearing a green sequined dress and high heels is sitting on a couch jumping up. Why does something so beautiful seem so awful to them? - **Image:** A solid black background with an inscription. **Text:** Hammocks are always the same. I like them at first and then I get bored. Maybe the dress is boring. I don’t know. I want to play soccer with my friends. ## Page 20 - **Image:** Left panel: a solid black rectangle. - **Image:** Right panel: A boy in a green sequined dress running up a set of stairs. **Text:** I’m not a good soccer player, but I score some amazing goals. When my parents saw me for the first time wearing Mom’s dress, they laughed. They laughed a lot. I felt a burning sensation in my chest and ears. I felt like crying. My legs started to shake as if I were cold. ## Page 21 - **Image:** Left panel: A solid black rectangle with a burst of white around a green sequined dress. - **Image:** Right panel: A boy in a sequined green dress is standing with a soccer ball while two boys are laughing at him. ## Page 22 - **Image:** Left panel: A black silhouette of the boy’s house and its surrounding city.
