Examples are: antivirus, disk cleanup, disk defragmenter, backup, and restore, etc. - Utility software is system software designed to help analyze, configure, optimize, or maintain a computer. It is used to support the computer infrastructure, in contrast to application software, which is aimed at directly performing tasks that benefit ordinary users. For example: - Disk Cleanup - Disk Defragmenter - It is given at location - Start> All programs> Accessories> System Tools ## Disk Clean-up: - It is used to free hard disk by removing temporary Internet files, removing installed components that you no longer use and empty the recycle bin. It will remove temporary file. - We can see temporary files by Run dialog box. - `%temp%` ## Disk Defragmenter: - It consolidates fragmented files and folders on your computer's hard disk. It provides more free space. - Start> All programs> Accessories> system Tools > Disk Defragmenter. - It will speed up computer speed. ## Open Source and Proprietary Software - The source code of the open source software is available to the general public for free. - Users can use or modify this software according to their requirements. - Linux, MySQL, Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Android are all examples of open source software. - Proprietary software is copyrighted software that restricts the redistribution or modification of its program. - Proprietary software, also known as closed-source software, is non-free computer software, for which the software's publisher or another person retains intellectual property rights, usually copyright of the source code but sometimes patent rights. - This software is owned by the company that has developed it. - No one can create a duplicate copy of this software nor distribute it without the company's permission. - The user has to buy a license from the company to use it. - Examples are: Microsoft Windows, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Office suit, etc. ## Mobile Apps - A mobile application is a type of application software designed to run on mobile devices such as a smartphone or tablet computer (TAB). These applications are commonly known as apps and are designed to provide similar services that can be accessed on PCs. Some common mobile app stores are: - **Google Play Store:** Official app store for android operating system. - **App Store:** Official app store for iOS operating system. - **Windows Store:** Official app store for Windows operating system. - A mobile application (mobile app) is a computer program or software application designed to run on a mobile device such as a phone/tablet or watch. - Mobile apps are normally downloaded from application distribution platforms which are operated by the owner of the mobile operating system, such as the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store. Some apps are free, and others have a price, with the profit being split between the application's creator and the distribution platform. Mobile applications often stand in contrast to desktop applications which are designed to run on desktop computers and web application which run in mobile web browsers rather than directly on the mobile device. ## Government of India Mobile Apps The Government of India is trying to make its services easily available to the masses via mobile applications and has launched many apps across all major smartphone platforms for the same. Here is a detailed list of the 8 most important mobile apps: - **BHIM(Bharat Interface for Money) App** - **My Gov App** - **IRCTC Connect App.** - **DigiLocker App** - **Voter Help Line App** - **GARV(Grameen Vidyutikaran) App** - **mPassport Seva** - **OnlineRTI - File RTI Online** ## BHIM App - This app is a Unified Payment Interface (UPI) and was developed by the National Payment Corporation of India. - It has been named after Bhim Rao Ambedkar and is intended to facilitate e-payments directly through banks and, as part of the 2016 Indian banknote demonetization, drive towards cashless transactions. **Key features of BHIM App:** - Supports all banks that use the UPI. - Built over the immediate payment infrastructure. - Allows instant money transfer between two bank accounts. - The app can function without the internet. - Currently, a maximum of Rs. 40,000 per transaction is allowed and Rs. 40,000 per day. ## MyGov App - This app is a citizen engagement platform founded by the Government of India that promotes active participation of Indian citizens in the country’s governance and development. - It aims at crowdsourcing governance ideas from citizens. The users shall be allowed to discuss and contribute to various government projects and plans. **Key features of MyGov App:** - Users can log in and share their suggestions, feedback, and ideas with central ministries. - Users can also join discussions, take polls, and form groups around topics of interest. ## IRCTC Connect App (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) - The Indian Railway had recently launched an android app to make the ticket booking process easier for the people. **Key features of IRCTC Connect App:** - Users can search and book train tickets. - Users can view and cancel tickets. - The app retains recently added passenger details. - It also alerts you for upcoming journeys. ## DigiLocker App - DigiLocker is a cloud based document storage system of the Government of India. - 1 GB of storage space is offered to users to store identification cards issued by government agencies, education certificates, PAN cards, driving licenses, vehicle ownership documents and some other documents. **Key features of DigiLocker App:** - Eliminates the use of physical documents. - Users can access their documents and certificates from their DigiLocker on their mobile devices. ## Thank You
