DOMAIN 8 TRAINING AND EDUCATION Workbook 1. Reinforcement Theory: Positive reinforcement- Pleasurable Outcomes- Rewards. Negative reinforcement- unpleasant outcomes- Note: Behavioural Modification training is primarily based on reinforcement theory. 2. Social Learning Theory: People learn by observing other persons (Models) whom they believe are credible and Knowledgeable. Behaviours that are reinforced or rewarded tends to be repeated Learning is also influenced by a person’s self-efficacy Self-Efficacy- Personal judgement about whether you can learn knowledge or skills. Self-Efficacy can be increased by: 1. Verbal Persuasion: Offering words of encouragement 2. Logical Verification: Relation between old task and new task 3. Observations from other models 4. Past accomplishments 4 processes involved in learning as per social learning theory 1. Attention 2. Retention 3. Motor reproduction (Practice) 4. Motivational Processes 3. Needs theories Need- a deficiency that a person is experiencing at any point in time Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs 4. Expectancy Theory It suggests that a person’s behaviour is based on 3 factors 1. Expectancy- link between trying to perform and actually performing it 2. Instrumentality - belief that performing a given behaviour is associated with a particular outcome. 3. Valence- Is the value that a person places on an outcome ( Eg: importance performing better on a job) e) Goal Setting Theory It states the objectives what is to be accomplished within a given period of time SMART- Objectives Specific- Measurable- Achievable- Realistic- Timebound- Eg: Zero Loss time incident Management by Objectives: the management and employees set objectives and periodically they evaluate it’s performance and reward according to its results. f) Information Process Theory: Processes that occur when training content is learned and retained. e) Adult learning Theory: Malcolm Knowles: a. Adults need to know why they are learning b. Need to be self directed c. Bring more experiences d. Are motivated to learn. Competency- Knowledge, Skills, Experience and qualification Competency Based training- is a training method built around a specific skill, or competency.
