2024 - 2025 Course Expectations 7th Grade History/Geography Teacher(s) Room Number(s) Email Mr. Wells Portable 7 [email protected] Course Description: 7th Grade History & Geography covers the major social, political and economic historic events of the Western Hemisphere up through the early 20th century. The Western Hemisphere includes the United States, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and South America. Critical thinking skills and student based inquiry are the focus of the course as opposed to rote memorization of facts. Upon their exit from this course the student should have gained a “toolbox” of skills that give them what they need to navigate the future as leaders of our communities. Textbook and/or Resources Information: Canvas Course- Nevada Learning Academy for 7th Grade Fully Charged Chromebook- Everyday Pencil or Pen Colored Pencils Chromebooks and Technology Chromebooks will assist students in learning essential 21st century skills. They will also provide students with unlimited resources and unique learning experiences. Gibson Leadership Academy students will comply with all CCSD and Gibson rules and regulations that apply to Chromebook use and care. Specifics related to these rules, regulations, and procedures are outlined in the CCSD Mobile Device Agreement, CCSD Expectations, and Gibson Leadership Academy Student Handbook. Assignments and Homework: Students will be completing online tasks in Canvas. Grading System: Grading Scale: A = 90% - 100% B = 80% - 89% C = 70% - 79% D = 60 - 69% F = 50 - 59% Semester grades will be based on the quarter grades (two at 45%) and a semester final/project (10%). Formative Assessments: 20% Summative Assessments: 80% Citizenship grades are issued every quarter. Citizenship grades are based on student behavior and student preparedness. Student Behavior Expectations Students are expected to adhere to the Gibson Great Eight. The consistent practice of these fundamental behaviors by school staff, students, and parents will enable our Scots to learn, achieve, grow socially, and become responsible citizens for life. All students have the right to learn; any behavior which disrupts this process will be addressed through a variety of methods including, but not limited to: Phone calls/letters to parents Parent conferences Counselor referrals Reduction in citizenship grade Loss of privileges Restorative justice practices Discipline referral Students who contribute to a positive educational experience for themselves and their fellow classmates can expect a variety of rewards including, but not limited to: Commendable citizenship grades Positive phone calls/letters to parents Points earned for their Houses For additional information regarding student behavior expectations, school behavior policies, and district regulations, please refer to the Robert O Gibson Leadership Academy Student Handbook. Academic Dishonesty If students are found guilty of academic dishonesty (cheating), the teacher will collect the assignment and notify the parent/guardian of the consequence. A second offense of cheating may result in a notice of required parent conference at which time future consequences will be discussed. The student may also receive an automatic “U” in the classroom. Plagiarism means the use of another’s work and the unacknowledged incorporation of that work into one’s own written work for credit. CCSD K-12 Student Code of Conduct During online registration, you acknowledged that you read the student code of conduct (page 87 ), below is the link for your records CCSD’s K-12 Student Code of Conduct. Attendance Students who have an excess of ten (10) absences in a single semester, may be denied course credit.
