There are three types of feedback conversations - Relationship -- use the FBI method (Feelings-Behavior-Impact) - Performance & Feedback - Step 1- Prepare - Understand Your Motivation - THINK- Ask yourself- "is it True, Helpful/Hurtful, Important/Inspiring, Necessary, Kind" - Self-satisfaction - Strengthen relationship - Help someone grow - Encode- choose your words with intentionality - Step 2- Set the Tone - Create an environment of psychological safety - Communicate your role as a Servant Leader - Acknowledge personal responsibility - Step 3- State the Issue - Perform surgery, don\'t stab- Address the problem or behaviors, without personally attacking the person - Be clear - Give examples - Communicate the impact of the behavior or issue - Step 4- Listen and Validate - Employ the Art of Listening - Demonstrate empathy by putting humanity 1^st^ - Be curious and ask question to clarify and gain understanding - Step 5- Move Forward - Leave room for growth and don't hold people to past actions - Acknowledge & appreciate changed behavior
