Principles of Design Proportion, Variety, and Movement Presented by: Group E PROPORTION Proportion refers to the relationship between objects with reference to their size and visual weight. Proportion signals what's important in a design and what isn't. Larger elements are more important, smaller elements less.  - The Good and Bad Proportion - Standard Proportion Types of Proportion - Altered Proportion GOOD AND BAD PROPORTION There are good proportion, and bad proportion. The former is rarely noticed, but the latter stands out. The relative size of two elements has to be in balance to create good proportion. Equal division creates monotony, too unequal division creates a lack of harmony.  STANDARD PROPORTION Standard proportion refers to proportions that are created correctly when compared to proportions that exist within reality. Proper scaling and proportion help make the artwork feel realistic, dynamic, or intentionally stylized, depending on the artist’s intent.  Variety Using a range of sizes, shapes, and colors to create visual diversity is known as variety in art. By treating many aspects differently, artists are able to create visual variety. Movement In art, movement refers to the application of visual elements like color, line, shape, and composition to give a two-dimensional piece of art the appearance of motion or dynamism. Within a piece of art, movement can be employed to evoke strong feelings or allude to time passing.
