They can trade or sell their candies to other students in their group. They decide the value and rules for trading. Sharing Group: Collect all the candies from this group into a common bowl. ECONOMIC SYSTEM An economic system is a system of production and exchange of goods and services as well as allocation of resources in a society. Two major economic systems: Communism and Capitalism. CAPITALISM Believes in individual ownership and competition. Theory: When everyone is selfish and concerned with personal profit, everyone will benefit. Adam Smith = “the” capitalist: Humans were self serving by nature but that as long as every individual were to seek the fulfillment of her/his own self interest, the material needs of the whole society would be met. –Wrote Wealth of Nations: felt capitalism was good for society = THE BEST ECONOMIC SYSTEM! COMMUNISM Believes in collective (group) ownership and a planned economy (government makes decisions). Theory: Everyone pools their resources and labor to evenly distribute everything. –Everyone gets an EQUAL amount of everything, regardless of how hard you work or don’t work!
