Below are the divisions of the nervous system: DIVISION PARTS FUNCTIONS (according to location) Central Nervous System brain and spinal cord brain: control center of the body (CNS) spinal cord: channel for sensory and motor signals Peripheral Nervous 12 cranial nerves and 31 carries information from the sense System (PNS) spinal nerves organs into your brain Subcategories of the Peripheral Nervous System: Somatic Nervous System sensory (afferent) and motor directs the external actions of the (SNS) (efferent) nerves sense organs and muscles under our control Autonomic Nervous sympathetic (s) and (s) fight-or-flight responses; (p) System (ANS) parasympathetic (p) rest and digest Rapid processes such as body movement and breathing are controlled by the nervous system. The ANS works with the endocrine system through the hypothalamus. The brain sends instructions to the endocrine system. In return, it gets constant feedback from the glands.
