Human beings now even know how to make clothes of synthetic materials. **Do You Know?** Early humans used to kill big animals which provided them meat and skin. Skin was used to make clothes and tents. They also used sharp splinters of bones as needles for stitching. Like food and shelter, clothes are also our basic need. ### Clothes - Clothes cover our body and make us look smart. - They protect us from cold, heat, dust, insect bites and rain. - They help us to identify the job of a person. - They also help us to identify the sports person. Woollen clothes and silk clothes keep us warm in winters. - **Rainy Season:** If we have to go out in rain, we should take umbrellas or wear long raincoats which are made up of synthetic material that are totally non-porous and waterproof. Nylon, rayon, polyester, etc., are some examples of synthetic fibers. **Do You Know?** The first synthetic fiber produced was **Nylon** in 1934. ## Care for Clothes We should look after the clothes so that they last longer and always wear clean clothes to stay healthy. - Clothes must be washed regularly. - They should be dried in the sun as sunlight kills germs. - After drying, they should be ironed to look neat. - Silk and woolen clothes should be washed in gentle soap. - They can also be dry-cleaned. - Clothes of a sick person should always be disinfected with an antiseptic solution. - Woollen and silk clothes are easily attacked by insects like moths and silverfish.
