SUMMARY CHAPTER 12 Human Resource information System Human Resource information System merges human resource management with information technology to simplify decision making process and improving effectiveness and efficiency of human resource functions. Areas of HR benefitted by HRIS include payrole, time and labour management and employee benefits. Payrole and HRIS: Automates the entire payrole process by gathering and updating employee parole data on a regular basis. Also gathers information on attendance, calculate deductions, taxes and generate automatic periodic paychecks and tax reports. Time and labour management and HRIS: gather and appraise employee time and work information. Employee benefits and HRIS: employee benefits help to motivate employees. HR department can keep easy track of which benefits are being availed by which employee. Other areas of HR benefitted by HRIS are training, performance appraisal, compliance and employee self-service. There are three types of e-HRM using HRIS namely operational e-HRM, relational eHRM and transformational e-HRM. Through e-HRM, main activities that could be performed online are recruitment, selection, training, performance management and compensation. Process of implementing HRIS involves evaluating and preparing for a new HRIS, configuring the new HRIS, linking the new HRIS with other systems and preparing the organization. Importance of HRIS is discussed- benefits of HRIS are faster information process, greater information accuracy and improved planning and program development and enhanced employee communication.
