Thriving at Work Thriving is defined as “the state of positive functioning at its fullest range – mentally, psychically and socially” (Su et al., 2014, p. 256) Thriving at work is the “psychological state in which individuals experience both a sense of vitality and learning at work” (Spreitzer et al., 2005, p. 538) Thriving at work is an internal experience which happens through “ interaction with others in the doing of work” (Spreitzer et al., 2005, p. 539) Thriving at Work Two components Vitality - represents positive feelings reflecting high levels of energy, aliveness, and having a sense of zest at work (Peterson & Seligman, 2004; Goh et al., 2021) Learning - represents one’s perceptions that they are gaining and applying new skills and knowledge that are enabling them to build their confidence and capability (Carver, 1998; Edmondson, 1999; Porath et al., 2012) Factors that influence Thriving thriving at at Work work Individual differences - prosocially motived, emotionally stable and positive core self- evaluations Job demands and - role overload, interpersonal conflicts Resources - instrumental for thriving Goh et al 2021 Factors that influence Thriving thriving at at Work work Workplace relationship – nurturing, fair treatment Leadership - transformational leadership, empowering leadership, shared leadership Organizational practices – organizational based self-esteem and psychologic safety HR practices that enhance knowledge, skills and capabilities Goh et al 2021 How does thriving at work looks like?
