# Mechanics and Heat ## Heat * Heat is a form of energy which is transferred from one body at a higher temperature to another at a lower temperature by virtue of their temperature difference. ## Pressure * Pressure is defined as the force per unit area * Pressure = Force / Area * Unit of pressure = N/m² * Pressure is measured by using a manometer. ## Example If a body A at temperature 50°C is brought into contact with a body B of temperature 20°C, there will certainly be a transfer of heat from A to B until both attain the same temperature. When the temperature of B is the same as that of A, there will be no further heat transfer. This is thermal equilibrium. From A to B, the heat has to be transferred. Since heat flows from a higher temperature to a lower temperature, then thermal equilibrium is attained when bodies are at equal temperatures.
