# Basic Rules of Badminton * The badminton net height in a regulation match is 5 feet. * A match is won by winning two out of three games. * Your team only has one hit to get the birdie back over the net. * The first team who scores 21 points and is winning by two points wins the game. * A team must win by two points. * To start a game, a rally will decide who serves first. * After the rally is over, the first serve is from the right side of the court. * Every serve is worth one point. * A serve must be hit underarm and below the server's waist. * You must serve diagonally across the court. * When your team has an even number of points, you serve from the right side of the court. * When your team has an odd number of points, you serve from the left side of the court. * The server must call out the score each time before they serve. * If a serve hits the net, it is called a let serve and the server tries again. If it hits the net on the second attempt, the other team receives a point. * If a player misses the birdie completely when serving, they get one more chance. If they miss the birdie on the second attempt, the other team receives a point. * The team who wins the point also serves next. * The rally is over once the birdie contacts the floor, is not returned over the net, or lands outside the court lines. * If any player touches the net with the racket or any part of their body, the other team receives a point. * If a team hits the birdie into the net during a rally and still goes over the net, the other team must return it.
