BAND CLASS EXPECTATIONS I WILL... I will come prepared to each lesson, rehearsal and performance. I will play my instrument to the best of my abilities. I will bring my instrument, pencil and music to my lessons, rehearsals and concerts. I will practice my music at home to make sure I have the skills I need to be successful. I will bring my instrument to school every Tuesday and Thursday. I will treat the band instruments and band room items with respect. I will leave my seating area clean, including stand and floor, when packing up. PRACTICE I understand that being in Band means that I am part of a team and I will always try my best. My positive attitude and preparation, during rehearsals and practice time, will help me be successful. I will practice my instrument for a minimum of 45 minutes each week in addition to our weekly lesson & band time. I will bring my signed practice sheet to Mrs. Rodriguez each week to earn my weekly practice points. I understand that I will need to practice my instrument on my own in order to be successful. COMMUNICATION I will let my teacher know if I have a question or concern. If my instrument isn’t playing, I will bring my instrument to my teacher at my lesson time or during my study hall, lunch or recess time, NOT at the beginning of Band rehearsal. If my instrument isn’t playing, I will put my instrument together and move my fingers on my instrument until my instrument is fixed/playable again. I will sit in my assigned seat and follow along with my music in my section. *Having an instrument that is “broken” is not an excuse to not participate in Band rehearsal. If I forget to bring my instrument to my lesson or band rehearsal, I understand that I will not be able to earn my points for the class for which I am unprepared. I will sit in my assigned seat and follow along with my music in my section. If I am interested in making up a lesson or earning additional points, I can come in during my recess time and work with my teacher. GRADING Band Rehearsals Concerts 25% 25% Students will earn points for: each band lesson, band rehearsal and concert turning in their signed practice sheet weekly to their teacher extra practice time during their regularly scheduled recess by completing written work in class Lessons Weekly Practice Sheet 25% 25% Band is a performance class and it is an expectation that you will play in both the Winter and Spring Concerts. If you are unable to perform in a concert, you must submit a written note at least two weeks in advance to your teacher. You will be given a written assignment and project to complete to earn your concert points. Failure to submit the written assignment by the given due date will forfeit your concert points and you will not be given an opportunity to make up those points. The missing points will be reflected in your quarterly average.
