Know about the batik making and Silk screen painting Prints – are impressions made from plates which can be metal, wood, stone, or other materials. It is a technique in which an inked image from a prepared surface is transferred into another surface such as paper of fabric. The Chinese develop the art of Steps in Printing First – the printmakers create a printing plate by altering a surface to create an image. Second – ink is applied to the plate Third – the printmaker transfer the ink to the paper or cloth by pressing the plate against the surface to be printed and then Methods in Making Prints  Relief Printing (letter press) – the image to be printed is raised from a background.  Wood is the medium most often used. Methods in Making Prints  Intaglio (gravure) – the image to be printed is scratched or etched into the surface  Metal plates are used in intaglio. Methods in Making Prints  Lithography – (planographic printing) – an artist draws an image to be printed on a limestone, zinc, or aluminum slab with a special greasy crayon. Methods in Making Prints  Screen printing (serigraph)- an artist transfers the design through various process on a silk screen. Japanese Printing The outbreak of civil war in 1185 brought the golden age of Japan to an end. Japan would remain in a stage of political unrest for the next 430 years. The art of these stormy times focused both on the harsh realities of war. Japanese Printing When peace came at last, another new way of art came with it. This style was called ukiyo-e, meaning “pictures of the floating world” MEDIA IN VISUAL ARTS Media refers to the materials from which an art object is made. Mixed media includes categories such s WOOD PRINTING The art of woodcut printing had evolved to meet the demands for pictures by the prosperous Japanese merchant class. WOOD PRINTING This technique was also used in China to print books. BATIK MAKING Indonesia excels in the art of batik and ikat making. BATIK MAKING Batik is a Javanese term fro a wax- resistant method of pattern-dyeing cloth. Ikat Is a process wherein the threads of the cloth are tied and dyed before weaving. The batik is prized throughout the world for its richness in colors and motifs. The Sarong worn by Asian women is a special woven cloth dyed by means of batik. Materials Used in Batik a. Fabric – only dyeable fabrics are used in batik. Materials Used in Batik b. Wax – use plain paraffin wax Materials Used in Batik c.
