ART APPRECIATION -​ Ability to interpret or understand man made arts and enjoy them either through actual work. Arts are called humanities THE SUBJECT OF ART -​ It is used in representing in artwork REPRESENTATIONAL OR OBJECTIVE ARTS -​ Artworks that depict something easily recognized by most people NON- REPRESENTATIONAL OR NON- OBJECTIVE ARTS -​ Artworks that have no resemblance real subject Functions of arts​ ​ Aesthetic Function - Art gives cognizance of beauty, where joy and appreciation are manifested Utilitarian function - Art provides comfort, convenience, and happiness to human beings. It provides basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, medicine, and transportation, making human lives easier and more comfortable. Cultural Function- Art serves as a medium to transmit and preserve skills, knowledge, attitudes, customs, and traditions of different people from one generation to another. ​ Social Function -​ Art bridges connections among people, encouraging unity, understanding, and better relationships, which helps create a better society​ ​ MANAOIS 1.​ FINE ARTS/ AESTHETIC - Made in aesthetc enjoyment through senses. 2.​ PRACTICAL ARTS/ UTILITARIAN - Intended in practical uses. VISUAL ARTS -​ Those that we perceive with our eyes. 1.​ GRAPHIC ARTS- painting photography 2.​ PLASTICS ARTS- organized in 3 dimension ​ PANIZO AND RUSTIA (1995) ​ ​ According to purpose: 1.​ Practical Arts / Useful arts -​ Directed to produce artifacts and utensils fr satisfactions of human needs. 2.​ Liberal Arts -​ Directed toward intellectual growth, such as study of philosophy, literature, math ad science. -​ Aim to develop the intellectual, creative, and moral capacities of students. -​ -Help mold and define who a person is, and that person then goes and takes his or her place in society 3.​ Fine Arts -​ Focused towards creative activity for the contemplation of mind and upliftment of the spirit. -​ They preserve and promote cultural heritage, reflecting diverse communities’ values, traditions, and histories. -​ Fine arts allow individuals to express their creativity, emotions, and ideas, enhancing critical thinking and emotional intelligence. 4.​ Major Arts -​ Characterized as actual and potential expressiveness. -​ Ex. Music, poetry and sculpture 5.​ Minor Arts -​ Concerned with practical uses and purposes. According to Media and Forms 1.​ Plastic Arts -​ Works exist in physica; space and perceived by the sense. 2.​ Phonetic Arts -​ Utilizes sounds and words as medium of expression. 3.​ Kinetic Arts -​ Invloved element in rhythm. Ex. Dance​ 4.​ Pure Arts -​ Take only one medium of expression Ex. Color in painting, Sound in music 5.​ Mixed Arts -​ Take more than one medium Ex. Opera which combines music MEDIUM OF VISUAL ARTS Medium - Denotes the means by which an artists communicates his ideas. -​ Something that traslates his feelings or thoughts into beautiful reality. MEDIUMS IN 2D ART WATER COLOR -​ Has less luminous effect when applied -​ Easy to use FRESCO -​ Paint on a moist plaster surface applied with lime water mixture. PASTEL AND CHALK -​ Dry pigments held together by gum binder and compressed into stick. OIL -​ Mixed with linseed oil and applied in canvas -​ Expensice , Flexible, Glossy -​ Dries slowly but lasts long. TEMPERA -​ A mineral mixed with yolk or egg white and ore ENCAUSTIC -​ Used by egyptia in the portrait. -​ Done with wax colors by the use of heat ACRYLIC -​ Medium most widely used by painters. -​ Characteristic of transparency and quic drying STAINED GLASS -​ Combination of small pieces of colored glass held together by the hands of lead TAPESTRY -​ Fabric consisting of warp where colored threads are woven to make designs -​ Use in wall hangings or furniture cover. MOSAIC -​ A picture decoration which cut small pieces of stoned or glass and glued or pasted on surface or cement. CRAYONS -​ A pigments ound by wax and compressed into painted sticks used by students CHARCOAL -​ MAde of carbonized materials from heating wood. MEDIUMS IN 3D ARTS ​ Stones ​ Granite ​ Marble ​ Jade ​ Ivory Metal ​ Bronze brass ​ Copper Gold ​ Silver ​ Lead ​ Plaster ​ Clay ​ Glass ​ Wood TECHNIQUES OF VISUAL ARTS TECHNIQUE -​ Means a process or method or using medium in a manner thet he wishes to finish an art work. ​ Blowing ​ Etching ​ Printing ​ Transfer Design ​ Tinkering ​ Splattering ​ Throwing ​ Coloring PRINT -​ Is a form of duplicating -​ Each print considered an original work, not merely a reproduction PRINTING -​ It means reproduction -​ A single design id multiplied. 4 process of Prinmaking 1.​ Relief Printing -​ Process of cutting away a portion in a design which is not needed. 2.​ Intaglio Printing -​ Preparatio of the impression is the opposite of those of relief printing 3.​ Planagraphic Process -​ A surface painting is the first chemically so some areas have printing while others have none. -​ Process drawing with a greasy crayon and fixed with an acid solution. 4.​ Stencil Process -​ Done by cuttingout paper, cardboard so when ink is rubbed is over it. SILKSCREEN- Fundamentally multi color process PHOTOGRAPHY -​ Literally drawing or writing with light -​ Use camera to produced desired copy -​ An actual likeness of design MEDIUMS AND TECHNIQUE DANCER- Body and its movements THEATER ARTIST- Uses stage production design etc, to produces and come together as a whole work. PHOTOGRAPHER- Use camera to record the outside world. MUSICIAN- Uses sound and instrument FILMAKER- Uses cinematographic camera to record put together. PRINT MAKER- Uses ink PAINTER- Uses pigments, water color, oil tempera ARCHITECT- Uses Wood, Bamboo, Bricks, Stone ( 3 DIMENSIONAL ARTS) SCULPTOR- Uses metal Wood, Stone Clay ( 3 DIMESIONAL ARTS )
