Archery Information Equipment: Compound bows Re-curve bows Arrows- tip, shaft, fletchings, index fletching, Targets Target stands Quiver Finger tab gloves Forearm guard Commands: “Step up to the LINE!” Student steps up to the shooting line, behind their quiver and stands sideways in a shooting stance. Each shooter must look to their left and to their right to make sure that their shooting partners are in a safe position. “Mount your arrows!” At this time, each shooter takes one arrow and places it on the arrow rest. “Shoot when ready!” At this time the shooters may shoot one arrow at a time at the correct target. When they have shot all of their arrows they lay their bows down and they step back. The instructor needs to see all bows on the ground “RETRIEVE!” Each shooter retrieves the three arrows that they shot. They give the three arrows to Mrs. Schutrum/Teacher in charge. Scoring: Refer to the colored target (under resources). The score is determined by where the arrow shaft is in the target. Scores will be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 or X. A missed shot is recorded as an “M”. It counts as zero points. Center Bulls-eye is recorded as an “X”. It counts as ten points. If an arrow pierces a dividing line on a target the score is awarded to the higher score. An arrow that lands in another arrow scores the same points. Arrows shot in the wrong target do not get scored. In individual competition, a tie score is resolved by awarding victory to the archer with the highest number of scoring hits: if still tied, the archer with the highest number of golds (10s) wins: if still tied, the archer with the highest number of 9s win: if still tied, a draw is declared.
