Antiviral Drugs in Respiratory Infections Types of Respiratory Viral Infections: Influenza Virus (Flu) Type A & B are most commonly responsible for seasonal outbreaks. Symptoms: Fever, cough, sore throat Coronaviruses SARS-CoV-2 - causative agent/cause of COVID-19 Treatment For Influenza: Antiviral drugs like neuraminidase inhibitors: Drug names ending with mivir like- Oseltamivir, zanamivir, peramivir. Endonuclease inhibitor: Only Bolaxavir. It is used for the treatment of uncomplicated influenza in patients ≥ 12 years old. Dosage: A single dose of 40 mg or 80 mg based on body weight For RSV: Antiviral drugs like Ribavirin and Palivizumab. For COVID-19: Drug names ending with vir (not mivir REMEMBER!!) like Remdesivir, Molnupiravir, and Paxlovid Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) is the first-line treatment for uncomplicated influenza. Zanamivir is inhaled formulation, and it is not recommended to patients with respiratory conditions like asthma or COPD.
