# Rules of the Game - Player Substitutions **Legea 3 - Number of Players** * **Players:** Each team in a game consists of a maximum of 11 players, including one goalkeeper. A game cannot start if one team has fewer than 7 players on the field. * **Official Competitions:** FIFA and continental/national competitions allow a maximum of 3 substitutions. * **Other Games:** In other games, a maximum of 5 substitutions is allowed, with agreement between the teams on the number of permissible substitutions. If there is no agreement and the referee is not informed beforehand, only 3 substitutions are permitted. * **Reserve Players:** The number of reserve players must be between 3 and 7. * **Communication:** A team must inform the referee beforehand about the names of all reserve players before the start of the game. A reserve player who is not designated in advance cannot participate. **Substitution Procedure** * **Referee Notification:** The referee must be informed in advance of substitutions. * **Entrance to the Field:** Reserve players can enter the field only after the player being substituted leaves the field of play and receives authorization from the referee. * **Middle of Field:** Reserve players should enter the field in the middle of the field. * **Game Stoppage:** The substitution will be performed only when the play is stopped. * **Status Change:** Once a reserve player enters the field, that player becomes a field player and the substituted player can't re-enter.
