The story is about two friends Jumman Sheikh and Algu Chowdhry who were very close friends and were partners in farming. When Jumman cheated his aunt, she called the village Panchayat to decide the case. When his friend Algu was chosen as the sarpanch, Jumman expected him to favor his side. When Algu assumed the post of the sarpanch he kept his friendship away and decided the case on merit as the faith of villagers was such that God resides in the heart of a panch. He pronounced the judgement against his friend and they became enemies When Algu Chowdhry faced a problem after selling his ox to a trader Samjhu Sahu, who treated the ox very harshly. Due to his bad nature, the ox collapsed. Samjhu did not pay the price of the ox and instead alleged that Algu had sold him a useless ox. Both of them decided to go to panchayat. Samjhu chose Algu’s friend turned foe, Jumman Sheikh as the panch. Now Jumman became conscious of the responsibility when he was seated on the highest throne of justice and righteousness. Samjhu announced the judgement in favor of Algu on the basis of truth and without any prejudice in his mind.
