Social Factors - trends & Behaviours social Factors Social factors are those trends & changes that affect the way society behaves. this can present organisations with challenges but also opportunities. Social change refers to the significant alteration of social structures, cultural patterns, and social behaviour over time. This change can occur at various levels, including societal, community, or individual levels, and can be driven by a range of factors such as economic shifts, technological advancements, political developments, and cultural transformations. changes in trends You will be aware of changes in the way you & your friends might behave based on what is popular or in fashion. Fashion changes frequently & there are different trends that people follow. This means that demand for certain products or services may increase or decrease presenting organisations with a challenge. How do changes in trends impact you & your organisation? Discuss ideas & make notes. society’s The way that people behave is affected by the expectations or trends in behaviour. behaviours & ‘Society’ can refer to the entire UK population, to a country (e.g. Wales) or a county (e.g. North Yorkshire). Beliefs Beliefs affect your organisation. Beliefs include religious beliefs; the largest religion in the UK is Christianity followed by Islam. Beliefs influence the types of products/services that are bought, e.g. those with links to religious festivals such as Eid, Diwali & Christmas. This may impact opening dates, times impacting stakeholders. Discuss & make notes on how beliefs impact your organisation. How ths affects society’s behaviours & the organisation Influence The media (social media, T.V., Film, etc) affect consumer demand for products/ services & perceptions about those products/services. Media A trend in wanting to do something can create a high demand but, if the trend changes & interest falls, an organisation can find itself without customers. For example, seasonal trends at Christmas for the must have items. The level of crime can influence the extent to which people are involved in activities, the protection they give their homes & how people behave, for example, whether or not they choose to take drugs or steel. Crime Crime also impacts organisations & employees as it increases costs such as insurance and security equipment such as alarms. The level of education of a society affects how that group of people behave & the type of products/services or lifestyles desired in that area. Education It tends to be that, where the level of education in a society is higher, the population demonstrates more more healthy behaviours & this influences the local area and the types of organisations, etc. Society’s Behaviours Organisations are affected by who goes out to work in a family, who purchases Make a table - making notes in each Family & Work products for the home, the number of hours being worked per week, holiday for your organisation. that is being taken & absences from work (e.g. illnesses). Social responsibility considers all welfare & environmental impacts but common themes include: recycling - how you recycle, the materials purchased & reduction of waste wider environment - cleaning up & around the local area, for example, waste & out of date advertising materials charitable donations - giving money or products/services to worthwhile causes & charities sustainability - for example, by using environmentally ethical local suppliers What social responsibilities does your organisation invest in? Technological advancements like the internet, automation, and AI have influenced job markets, communication, and daily life. Political Factors Legislation addresses social issues like civil rights and labor laws. Government initiatives promote social welfare. Leadership includes political leaders and movements. Changes in governance structures and political ideologies are also key. Causes Of Social Change Cultural Factors Increased education and knowledge transmission through media and communication have an impact on shifts in societal norms and cultural values, especially views toward gender equality and diversity. Technological Factors Social media and digital platforms' effects on activism, information sharing, interpersonal relationships, and community development.
