BROWARD SHERIFF'S OFFICE DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES 4.27 DISPATCH PROTOCOL: A. Communications dispatchers will advise DLE field supervisors of any calls received when there are no available units to send. All information provided by the caller will be relayed by the dispatcher to the field supervisor. B. The field supervisor will be responsible to make the determination concerning the assignment of the call. C. Dispatchers will remind field supervisors of any calls still holding in 15 minute intervals. D. Supervisors will not ask dispatchers to hold calls that were not reviewed. E. Dispatchers will advise the field supervisor of any multiple calls for service at the same location, upon receipt, involving violence or threat thereof, 911 hang ups, or in-progress calls. F. Particular attention will be afforded to calls held per the field supervisor at shift change. The off-going supervisor will communicate with the oncoming supervisor to assess status and priority. G. Only field supervisors will have the authority to reassign calls to another deputy other than the deputy who was dispatched. H. All field staff will log onto their Mobile Data Computers (MDC) immediately following roll call. Sergeants and deputies will log onto their MDC even if in a busy status at the district office. I. At the beginning of each shift the dispatcher will advise the pertinent field supervisor which units have failed to log onto their MDCs. J. Only sergeants or higher ranks can authorize deputies to be busy (10-6) at the district office. K. Each district will be equipped with the MDC program on the computer of the pertinent chief or designee's choice to allow field supervisors to access CAD information from a desktop computer.
