Need for Measurement of Sustainability Evaluation: Provides a means to assess the impact of human activities on the environment, society, and economy, Monitoring Progress: Enables tracking progress towards sustainable goals, identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring accountability Decision-Making: Offers data-driven insights for informed decision- making, guiding policies, business strategies, and resource allocation towards sustainable practices. Need for Measurement of Sustainability Communication and Transparency: Facilitates clear communication of sustainability efforts to stakeholders, and demonstrating commitment to responsible practices. Types of Indicators Descriptive indicators Performance or effectiveness indicators Efficiency indicators Total wellness indicators. Descriptive Indicators Describe the real situation concerning environmental problems and are expressed in units (for example tons of CO2 emissions); Performance or Effectiveness Indicators Is the ratio between the result achieved and the pre- established objective in terms of environmental policy. e.g. the % of waste collected separately Efficiency Indicators It is the ratio between the environmental result achieved and the economic resources used यह प्राप्त पयाघवरणीय पररणाम और उपयोग ककए गए आर्िक घ सांसाधनों के बीच का अनप ु ात है For example - The reduction of the atmospheric emissions per unit of cost of structural actions. सांरचनात्मक कायों की िागत की प्रतत इकाई वायुमांडिीय उत्सर्घन में कमी Total Wellness Indicators That measures the total sustainability For example, The ecologic footprint or the contribution to the greenhouse effect. पाररस्थिततक पदर्चह्न या ग्रीनहाउस प्रभाव में योगदान। Sustainable Development is Attainable!!! सतत ववकास प्राप्य है !!! Significance A company's environmental sustainability must be measured To evaluate the effects of its operations from an ecological and social perspective. And prospective partners and investors will find that the sustainability of the business is increasingly measurable. A company’s Environmental Sustainability is Measured by a) Compliance with the current legislation: Company’s ability to respect the international and national laws and standards required for its area of expertise; b) Quantity of raw materials used: Involves both the economic and environmental part of the company, measuring the quantity of harmful emissions and produced wastes A company’s Environmental Sustainability is Measured by c) Supply chain: it is necessary to consider the entire life cycle of the product, from the procurement of raw materials to the end of its life; D) Social impact: how the company fits into the social context in which operates for example, the national and international relations of the production chain, and the impact to the local area A company’s Environmental Sustainability is Measured by e) Environmental effects: they concern the environmental consequences of the company’s activities and, more in general, the presence of safety procedures to reduce/cancel the damage of any negative event. Development Policies That Translate Into Sustainable Development: Adoption of practices based on circular economy principles; Preservation and protection of the territory and biodiversities; Promotion of renewable energy sources and efficient use Recycle and optimal waste management; Promotion of sustainable mobility; Development of innovative technologies for the environment.
