Department of Health Education and Promotion Faculty of Public Health and Tropical Medicine Jazan University, KSA Evidence-Based Practice (Health Promotion) 4 Evidence-Based Health Promotion EBHP Dr. Yahya Alamir BSN, MAP, PhD ,Assistant Professor Public Health, Social & Behavioral Sciences Contents Introduction Evidence Based Health Promotion (EBHP) Evidence Based Health Promotion Program (EBHPP) Task 3 We have already learned The following EBP Is an approach to care that integrates the best available research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values. Research Practice Clinical Expertise EBP Patient Values The main components of EBP Research Clinical expertise, and Patient needs and values To apply the definition of EBP in Health Promotion EBHP can be described as: an approach to promote health that integrates the best available research evidence with professional expertise and client values and needs. Research Practice Professional Expertise EBHP Client Values The main components of EBHP Research Professional expertise (include clinical), and Client needs and values Practice in HP Community/population based Health promotion programs Health education Clinical based Clinical health education Clinical based health promotion strategies ,Therefore Evidence in Health Promotion can be as: Evidence based Knowledge Update the current knowledge Ex. Evidence/Literature on the effectiveness of theories Evidence/Literature related to new theories, strategies, and or approaches Evidence/Literature on the determinants of a health issue etc Translating knowledge into practice (either in clinical based, and or community based) Evidence in Health Promotion Evidence based intervention (Health promotion program) Evidence/Literature on the effectiveness of health promotion program ,Accordingly We have EBHP in general is The use of information derived from formal research and systematic investigation to identify causes and contributing factors to health needs and the most effective health promotion actions to address these in given contexts and populations. It involves The systematic integration of research evidence into the planning and implementation of health promotion activities, So, It has two aspects Evidence on the determinants of health needs / issues Evidence on most effective health promotion actions, strategies/ programs The great concern is on Health Promotion Programs Evidence-based Health Promotion Programs is A process of planning, implementing, and evaluating programs adapted from tested models or interventions. it is becoming increasingly apparent that evidence is needed by practitioners for effective health promotion interventions. It is generally accepted that with quality findings from intervention studies, practitioners can make better decisions to achieve effectiveness in their interventions. Moreover, without evidence of effective health promotion, it may be difficult to obtain policy support. In order for health promotion programs and interventions to be effective, they should be based on a body of relevant theory and research. Unfortunately, many programs are primarily informed by precedent, tradition, or intuition, leading to limited success. Advantages of EBHPP Improving the effectiveness of interventions, The health of target population Promoting practice, and Achieving the most effective allocation of resources. Funders increasingly demand that programming be based on solid evidence. Agency leaders want to concentrate limited resources on proven programs. ,A key consideration However, is the nature of the evidence used. Evaluation of Evidence nterventions that mee Types of and evidence in HP dictable, repeatab e. dictable, and repeatab s that produce desire e. ble but arerepeatable 1. Evidence of implemented interventions that meet the criteria for scientific fact that is, they are proved predictable, and repeatable, regardless of time and place. 2. Evidence from interventions that produce desired outcomes and are predictable but are repeatable only at a local level within a certain period of time. tain period of time. s that produce desire Evaluation of Evidence in HPP is a challenge We will talk about later Task 3 Look for an intervention (Health promotion program) that has been applied to solve the issue you have chosen. Next lecture Steps and tasks of EBHPP Thank you ??Questions
