All of the first-year students of ISM Bachelor study programs must attend lectures. Attendance depends on the requirements stated in the subject description. By general order, a student has the right to repeat the course from which he was removed. What are ECTS credits? The scope of a study program and individual courses is estimated in credits. One course is worth at least 3 ECTS credits. One ECTS credit is equal to 27 hours of a student's workload. The scope of a bachelor study program, upon graduation, of which a bachelor's degree is awarded, is 210 or 240 credits. Every semester has 30 ECTS credits, which consists of 810 hours of workload (27*30). The price of one extra ECTS credit is 120 EUR for the 2023/2024 academic year. What if the lecturer seems to be incompetent? Sometimes, it happens that some of the lecturers seem to be incompetent in teaching the subject. Having these complaints, the student should address it to their program director. Moreover, a quality assessment survey is organised at the end of each semester. Giving lecturers lower grades in these surveys ensures that the ISM administration knows about the issue. What are the bachelor study programs that ISM has? Students can choose from seven bachelor study programs. Each program has its own abbreviation: BMM - Business Management and Marketing, EDA - Economics and Data Analytics, EP - Economics and Politics, IBC - International Business and Communication, FIN - Finance, EI - Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and ITM* - Industrial Technology Management. All of the programs last 7 semesters or 3,5 years (EI is 3 years). Shortly about each program: IBC – this program introduces business from all angles - communication, marketing, social responsibility, and international economics. FIN – this program equips future financial experts with skills that will respond to technological changes and global market trends. During these studies, students will learn how to gather market data and apply the latest economic and investment theory. EP – this program will help you understand how different topics influence each other. Students will learn the proper application of game theory and be able to perform the critical analysis required to evaluate global events. Through this program, students will develop forecasting skills that will let 5 students assess ongoing trends and identify their potential consequences for a business or national economy. EDA – students of this program learn to understand and analyse economic trends. They gain knowledge that will help them to understand how a company operates, how the country’s economy and leadership decisions affect business, and what changes global trends bring. BMM – the student of this program has the necessary management and marketing knowledge and skills needed to manage the functions and processes of the organisation, to lead people in changing conditions, and professional management competencies in the main areas of organisation management: marketing, finance, human resources, and project management; social competences required for effective cooperation and teamwork; conceptual competencies for decision-making; knows how to use modern information technologies, has other transferable knowledge and skills. EI – students of this program experiment and learn through business simulations, closely explore the world of technology, and test their strengths in various roles of business creation. Here, they apply creativity and critical thinking in developing business model plans and marketing strategies. ITM* – students of this program learn the latest and most successful management techniques and gain the necessary knowledge and skills to lead an automated workplace. Students leave this program with an in-demand set of core competencies that will enable them to lead a team of technicians and engineers and implement the digitization of various operations. *This program is no longer available for new students because of a lack of interest. Can I change the study program? The answer is YES! A student who has submitted an application for the studies department may be transferred from one bachelor's study program to another by making an individual study plan if needed. All compulsory study subjects maintained by the student, which are common to both study programs, are credited, regardless of the language in which they were studied. A student transferred from one study program to another must eliminate the academic differences in the compulsory study subjects of the study program field. Elective study subjects are credited without restrictions. It is important to note that students receiving a state scholarship can change their program only after one year of study, i.e., after the end of the spring semester. Otherwise, according to regulations, the State Study Fund will cancel the student's state study scholarship. 6 ELECTIVE SUBJECTS Is it possible to change electives? Yes, it is possible to choose a different elective each semester. The study office always announces the list of possible electives and informs you until you have to choose it. It is a very simple process - you just have to make a priority list at the my.ism.lt system (column name: Elective subjects) Can I attend lectures on multiple electives? Yes, there is a possibility, but in order to listen to lectures on a subject that is not included in your study program (for example, a second elective subject), you need to pay the price of the number of credits for that subject. ASSESSMENTS What is the grading system at ISM University? You can learn about it in this video: https://station.ism.lt:5001/vs/sharing/vO61a9l3#!aG9tZV92aWRlby0xMzg= How many and what are the assessments while studying at ISM University? There are, let’s say, two sessions per semester. Mid-term exams, or when determined by faculty, are considered mid-terms, mid-semester exams that make up a certain percentage of the final grade. Final exams are held at the end of the semester. There may be projects and various assignments in the course, which also count towards the final grade. The value of the final exam can be more than 50%, this is most common in maths subjects. A positive grade is 5. 4.9 is rounded to 4 and counts as 0 towards the overall grade, so if you want a positive grade, you need to score a minimum of 5 points. So the most important thing is not to retake the exam to repeat the course, you need to collect a minimum - 50%, which will mean that the subject's semester grade is 5. How does the retake of the exam work? If you fail to accumulate five, you have to go to retake the subject. The pass value in percent is the sum of the midterm and final exam percentages. Estimates of other settlements contribute to the retake grade and the entire amount is the final grade of the subject. You can retake the exam only once and for free. What happens if I do not pass the exam retake? If a student fails to retake, he receives academic debt. This means that in the next academic year, the student will have to attend lectures on the subject with younger students and pay the price of the subject credits (the cost of one ECTS credit is 130 EUR). 7 The debt limit is unlimited, but a student with more than two academic debts must submit to the Department of Studies by July 15th. to submit an application for the creation of an individual study plan, otherwise, the student is removed from the list. Of course, the student will have to pay for all debts. What are the most important nuances of the exam procedure? More information on the rules applicable to all ISM written settlements (interim, final, and re-settlements) can be found in the Examination Rules. The most relevant of them are: it is obligatory to have a student ID card or other identity document with a photo, you can only have writing instruments with you, the use of other instruments is determined by the teacher, and only dictionaries specified by the teacher can be used, the mobile phone cannot be used even for filming, photography, calculating or time checking. ACADEMIC ETHICS What is academic ethics? Academic ethics are principles of conduct with which every member of the ISM community must comply. What are the violations? Violations of academic ethics include plagiarism, fraud, forgery, violation of research ethics, and bribery. Disciplinary actions for ethical violations: A warning is a cautionary measure that serves as a response and deterrent to a particular action or behaviour that is deemed inconsistent with ISM University’s values and ethical principles. Warnings are issued where the poor academic practice has occurred; A penalty is a punishment that serves as a response and deterrent to a particular action or behaviour that is deemed inconsistent with ISM University’s values and ethical principles. Penalties are applied when conduct is deemed to be academic misconduct; Expulsion is reserved for students whose conduct justifiably bars them from future studies for a certain period or permanently at ISM University. What is the Committee on Ethics? The Committee on Ethics considers violations of academic ethics. The Committee on Ethics submits the form of the penalty, its content, and its validity to the students. The Commission is chaired by Laurynas Puidokas. 8 INDIVIDUAL STUDY PLAN In which cases an individual study plan is drawn up? An individual study plan is created by the student changing the study program in order to eliminate the academic differences. It may also be awarded to students who have been credited with previously achieved study results in accordance with the ISM Procedure for Crediting Study Results and Credit Transfer and to students with more than two academic debts. An individual study plan may be drawn up in other cases upon submission of a motivated request. What to do if a student wants to get an individual study plan? In particular, submit a request via e-mail at [email protected]. This request is processed within 5 working days from the date of receipt. The proposed individual study project is sent to the student via the ISM e-mail system if the request is approved. After receiving the project, within 5 working days, you need to respond to the received email and confirm the individual study plan you have drawn up or write what you want to change. Failure to do so will render the plan invalid. When do I need to apply for an individual study plan? If the plan is for academic debts, the application must be submitted by July 15th. If the plan is drawn up for the other reasons mentioned above, the application must be submitted no later than two weeks before the beginning of the new semester. Is it possible to adjust your individual study plan? The already approved individual study plan is reviewed before each new semester and updated as necessary. If a student acquires at least one academic debt while studying according to an individual plan due to an inappropriate study schedule or other circumstances, it is mandatory to contact the Study Department no later than the first week of the semester and submit an application for renewal of the individual study plan. Individual plan - how will the cost of my studies be calculated? For students who study according to the approved Individual Study Plan, the semester fee for studies is calculated according to the credit price of additional study services and the number of credits studied. The credit price of additional services is determined in the price list of ISM study programs and services for the relevant study year. In the year 2024/2025, the price of 1 ECTS in bachelor's studies is 130 euros. 9 TERMINATION OF STUDIES On what grounds can studies be terminated? Studies may be terminated by mutual agreement of the parties. The Ethics Commission may submit a proposal to the President to terminate the study agreement due to violations of the provisions of the documents establishing academic ethics and ISM general procedure or if the student is found guilty in a criminal case by a final court decision. Studies may be terminated if the student does not comply with the terms of the study agreement. What happens to tuition fees when studies are terminated? If bachelor's studies are terminated by bilateral agreement, the relevant part of the tuition fee is refunded, depending on the length of the semester (e.i., after terminating studies until September 15 during the autumn semester, or February 15 during the spring semester, the student must pay 20% of the semester price specified in the current semester's invoice in the Study Agreement, if the studies are terminated before October 15 during the autumn semester or March 15 - the student must pay 50% of the price, if the studies are terminated later than October 15 or March 15 - 100%). Tuition fees are not refunded to persons whose studies have been terminated. COMPLETION OF UNIVERSITY STUDIES The study program is completed by assessing the graduate's knowledge, understanding, abilities, and values during the defence of the final thesis. Defending a bachelor's or master's thesis is allowed only after fulfilling all the study program requirements. The works are defended in public by the Qualification Commission for the Thesis Defence, the decision of which is final and indisputable. The diploma confirming the bachelor's or master's degree and the diploma supplement are issued only after the student has fully settled accounts with the University. Once ISM has sent the invoice, it has to be paid by the specified time. Invoices are issued on the first days of the semester, i.e. in the autumn semester until September 15 and in the spring semester until February 15. Is it possible to postpone payment? Yes, it is. In the fall semester, the postponement of the study fee is possible until November 16th; in the in spring semester, it's allowed until April 16th. A delay of more than one week incurs a charge of 30 euros. However, when taking out a student loan, this 30 euro fee does not apply to the deferral of the tuition fee. What are State-issued loans? State-supported or issued loans are financial help for students, that student has to return one year after graduating in 15 years. The state is paying bank interest rates during studies. SCHOLARSHIPS What are the types of scholarships and discounts, and who is eligible to receive them? The ISM University study scholarships and discounts, along with the eligibility conditions specifying who, how, and when they can be received, are published on the official ism.lt website and are updated annually. How to maintain a scholarship/discount? A scholarship/discount that was received at the beginning of the studies is maintained when a student’s average grade is no lower than the course and program average grade. It is worth noticing that receiving academic debt does not guarantee the loss of a scholarship, it only lowers students' average grade, and scholarships are not deducted automatically. Students' GPAs are reviewed each summer. Students whose scholarships or discounts are cancelled are informed by ISM administration via email. When is it possible to lose a scholarship? Loss of student status; The decision of the ISM ethics commission regarding identified violations of the code of ethics and their severity; If, at the end of the academic year, a student's average grade is lower than the course-specific average grade of students in the same study program and course; Due to non-fulfillment of financial obligations; The ISM Advancement Scholarship is forfeited in cases where a student's average at the end of one academic year is lower than that of the top ten ISM undergraduate students in the same course, or if the student is granted an academic leave of absence; 14 The discount for employees of sponsoring companies is lost for the following study semesters when a student goes on academic leave. What is a state scholarship? The State Study Fund provides a scholarship, which pays the normative part of the tuition fee for one year. During the first year of studies, it is necessary to indicate on the website www.vsf.lt to which account the state must transfer the money, otherwise, the scholarship is not received. What is a social scholarship? Social scholarship is provided to students who come from financially unstable families and to students with disabilities. With the help of the university partners, ISM also provides a social scholarship that covers all of the tuition fees. LSP(LSIC) / ISIC What is LSP? The Lithuanian student identity card is the only document in Lithuania that proves the status of a personal student. LSP offers many discounts, such as a 50% discount for long-distance transport in Lithuania or an 80% discount for public transport. How to get it? LSP must be ordered on the website www.lsp.lt. What to do in case you lose it? If you lose your LSP and order a new one, you can do so in the lsp.lt system. The LSP is lost and the student does not want to order a new certificate, they must fill out the notification and pay a fine of EUR 100. What should you do if the document was stolen? The stolen LSP must be reported to the police, the police statement must be presented to ISM SA, and a new one can be ordered at www.lsp.lt. What to do if the document is still valid after studies? If the LSP is valid longer than 3 weeks, the student MUST take it to the student representative office. When the certificate is removed, the hole will be drilled, and the certificate will be returned to the student. What is the price for a document? For Bachelor students, it costs 20 euros, for masters - 12 euros. What is ISIC? 15 The International Student Identity Card can be useful when traveling where you will prove a person’s student status, and provide discounts and benefits. However, in Lithuania, the status of a student is officially proved only by the Lithuanian Student Card (LSP), the ISIC certificate may not be recognized everywhere. Where is the closest place where it can be made? In the ISM Library. ISIC price is 11 Euros (with integrated Vilnius Public Transport e-ticket - 12 Euros). The certificate is valid for 12 months. If ISIC is ordered with ISM design and an integrated Vilnius transport ticket (https://www.isic.lt/ism/), the price of the card is 13 euros. Important! To enter the ISM building, it is necessary to have an LSP or ISIC with a microchip. Before using the card for the first time, it must be taken to the administrator (on the 1st floor, near the main entrance) for synchronisation. ACADEMIC LEAVE When can one take academic leave? Academic leave may be granted to the person not earlier than after they successfully complete the first semester (counted) after enrollment. In case of objective reasons to suspend studies, a degree student can submit a substantiated request to the Commission of Studies for a leave of absence during the course of a semester. How much time one may spend on academic leave? Academic leave can last up to 1 year during the whole study period. Exceptional cases can be applied by getting pregnant or catching a serious illness. How can one take an academic leave? A student must submit a request to the study department at least two weeks prior to the start of the respective semester. Academic leave cannot be granted during the last semester of the IVth year of bachelor’s studies and II year of International Master’s studies. How can one cancel their academic leave? Upon return from their leave of absence, but not later than two weeks prior to the start of the relevant semester, a degree student shall submit a request via email to [email protected]. Failure to submit a request leads to the expulsion from the ISM by order of the Rector and termination of the Study Agreement. What happens to scholarships when a student takes an academic leave? 16 Scholarships are suspended until the renewal of studies. EXCHANGE What exchange programs may a student take part in? Scholarships are distributed according to the competitive score. What happens to tuition fees when a student is on exchange? A student continues to pay the tuition fee, any grants received stay the same. How can one enroll in an exchange program? A student should contact the International Studies Office (at 202 cabinet). In the site Elearning.ism.lt you can find an Excel file “Exchange outgoing,” with all exchange program possibilities. Students compete among themselves for an opportunity to go on exchange, the ones with a higher average grade are prioritised. An additional 0,5 grade can be received if one takes part in the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) or becomes a mentor (“Student buddy”) for full-time international students. What are the main application dates? Selection for an exchange takes place twice a year: in September for the spring semester and in February for the fall semester. ISM provided three main internal systems: my.ism.lt, elearning.ism.lt, and webmail.ism.lt. My.ism.lt - a system in which payment schedules, grades, and timetables are published. You can order the required reference and choose an optional subject, fill out an application form for study exchange, order an internship contract, etc. Elearning.ism.lt - a system in which you can find teaching material, forms of requests, and study-related documents such as homework exercises, lecture slides, etc. It is also possible to upload completed work to the system, for example, homework. Here you can also find all the documentation related to the studies. Webmail.ism - this is an ISM e-mail. Every ISM community member has it - lecturers, administration, other ISM employees, and students. We communicate mostly via ISM email only - this is where students get the important information (announcements about timetables, invitations to events, tuition fees, etc.) 21 Therefore, everybody should check it regularly. But if you struggle to check it every day, you can connect your personal email to an ISM email and get all the emails in one place. Moreover, ISM has a digital library in which students can reserve books or extend the return period. You can find more information about the systems and their functions in this video: https://station.ism.lt:5001/vs/sharing/0M404ZwO#!aG9tZV92aWRlby03OA== LIBRARY Where can you find the library? ISM Library is located on the -1st floor of the university’s building. What are the services provided by the Library? Library not only borrows books but also allows you to get access to databases, ISIC card production, and workplaces. What are the fines for those who fail to return the books on time? Books are issued for a limited term (from 3 days to a semester), for every delayed day of return a daily fee of 0,15 euros is applied. When the fine reaches 3 euros, interest on arrears does not stop counting, but a student cannot take more books from the library until the fine is paid. How to postpone the deadline for book return? If there is no long queue for that book, you can extend the deadline for the book return online (address: http://ism.library.lt). In this system, you can not only extend the book return deadline but also order and make a reservation on publications, and search in the Library's online catalogue. ISM CAMPUS What university spaces can ISM students use? The university has a wide variety of spaces that students can book to work or relax in between lectures.
